The dynamism and can-do attitude of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government is inspiring. He set a seemingly unachievable target in Ease of Doing Business 4 years ago, and now they have come very close to achieving it. The effect of some transformative reforms by the government such as GST and Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code is yet to percolate completely in to the rankings so I can see a momentum being built on these reforms. I am extremely hopeful that we will see not just small steps but we will also see the same momentum to continue with the right steps and the right guidance by the Prime Minister.

Nowadays, all countries are looking at investing in India due to the liberalisation and the environment created by a strong leadership and a strong economy; the whole world is focussing on India now. India is soon going to be one of the largest economic powers in the world...Earlier there used to be so many restrictions on about 25-30 million Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to invest in our great country, but now a lot of liberalisation has been done and NRI investment is treated as domestic investment now and FDI has improved and now there can be joint ventures with foreign investment and NRI investments coming together in India. This has been one of the important outcomes of the jump in our Ease of Doing Business rankings.

I think clearly Ease of Doing Business rankings have greatly improved which gives confidence to outsider companies like ours and who are willing to invest millions of euros in India.

It has been an eventful journey in the last 4 years, we have moved up from 142nd position to 77th in this short span. A number of steps have been taken in the Ease of Doing Business, particularly in the speed at which you can set up companies and with various permissions. A lot of headway has been made.

The amount of focus I have seen on decision-making related to Ease of Doing Business is unprecedented. I don’t think there is any other Prime Minister who has focused as much on improving Ease of Doing Business rankings to this extent. He clearly says what he wants and does it in a transparent manner without any favouritism towards anybody. I have tracked this in Gujarat and I can say this with full confidence that here in Delhi also all policies are equal for everyone.

I want to congratulate Prime Minister Modi for taking up every business-related issue in a mission mode in the last 4 years. This has shown tremendous results and Prime Minister Modi has proved his sceptics wrong...He works like a corporate person who gives targets to his team that may initially look difficult to achieve but are not out of reach. The outcome of this approach is that it makes everyone work collectively and eliminate roadblocks coming in the way. For instance, when we faced some problems in the GST implementation, the Finance Council and the government immediately addressed the industry’s grievances...Due to these reforms, not only the Indian industry is happy but the global industry too is seeing these fundamental changes and will invest greatly into the opportunities offered by the Indian market.

It was a really positive story to hear about India’s improvements in Ease of Doing Business rankings, it was just like our experiences on the ground. I think the real credit for what’s happening today belongs to Mr. Modi. Earlier, fast-track projects in India would take years and years to execute and complete. But today, with a fast-track project, a contract is executed within a few months and construction is completed within two years. The difference is tangible on the ground. This is how it should be.

Our Ease of Doing Business rankings are almost 77% up now. Now it is easier to come into India because of PM Narendra Modi’s transparency and efficient management. There is no red-tapism. India is the only good country now to invest. It is coming up with good governance and I wish all the best.

It is very exciting to see India jump up from 142 to 77 in just 4 years. My sense is that this is just the beginning. I would love to see India in the Top 25. It is very interesting coming from a western digital corporate, where we look to multiple countries to invest in. This makes India a lot more lucrative as a market, as a destination to invest...We have a fascinating Prime Minister. Shri Modi is absolutely one of the best in the world.

“I am truly delighted that the focus on improving the business environment and making it easier for business is coming from the Prime Minister’s level himself and is driven through the entire government. I think if India has to prosper economically, this is the right way of continuously focussing on making it easier to do business in India.
