The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, visited Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He laid foundation stone of Guru Ravidas Birth Place Development Project to mark Ravidas Jayanti celebrations.

In line with the Indian Railways' Mission of 100 percent electrification, Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi has developed a new prototype Electric Locomotive converted from Diesel Locomotive.

After its mandatory trials, the Prime Minister inspected the locomotive and flagged it off. Indian Railways has decided to convert all Diesel Locomotive to Electric Locomotive during its mid-life rehabilitation and utilise them till their codal life.

The project is a step towards saving traction energy cost and also cut down on carbon emissions. Diesel Locomotive Works took just 69 days to convert two WDG3A Diesel Locos into a Twin Electric WAGC3 locomotive of 10,000 HP. A complete ‘Make in India’ initiative, the conversion is an Indian R&D innovation in the entire world.

Elaborating on his Government’s projects to help the marginalised the PM said, “We brought quota for poor, so that those marginalised can lead a dignified life”. This government is punishing the corrupt and rewarding the honest” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, the PM said that the teachings of the mystic poet inspire us every day. He stressed that people won’t be able to connect with each other and there won’t be any equality in the society if there is caste-based discrimination.

He urged all to follow the path shown by Sant Ravidas and said had it been followed, we would have weeded out corruption.

PM added that a grand park will be constructed with a statue of the seer, and all the facilities for the pilgrims will be there in one place as a part of the project.

Prime Minister’s Departure Statement ahead of his visit to Seychelles
June 27, 2026

At the invitation of my friend, H.E. Dr. Patrick Herminie, President of the Republic of Seychelles, I will undertake a State Visit to Seychelles from 27-29 June 2026 to participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the National Day of Seychelles as the Guest of Honour.

Seychelles is a valued maritime neighbour and a key partner in our Vision MAHASAGAR and our shared commitment to the Global South. This year, we also mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations which are rooted in mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity and deep affinity between our peoples.

Building on the successful State visit of President Herminie to India in February 2026, I look forward to our discussions aimed at further strengthening our enduring friendship. Together, we will work to advance the progress of our peoples, and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

During the visit, I will have the honour of becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles. This historic opportunity reflects the strong democratic values and parliamentary traditions that bind our two nations.

I also look forward to interacting with the vibrant Indian community in Seychelles, who have been nurturing the special friendship between India and Seychelles for generations, and serving as a living bridge between our two nations.

I am confident that my visit will further deepen the longstanding bonds between the two countries, enhance maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean region, and advance our shared vision of a secure, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
