Dear friends,
We eagerly awaited the monsoon rains last week, but it went by in disappointment. In some places it did rain; while there was no sign of rain in many places. Let us pray to God that Lord Varunadev blesses us with bountiful of rain soon.
While we were waiting for rains there was a good news which made all us proud. I wish to share this news with you.
You must be aware of Gujarat government’s initiative, named the State Wide Attention on Grievances with Application of Technology (SWAGAT) launched in April of 2003. I am happy to say SWAGAT has won the United Nations Public Service Award in the category of ‘Improving Transparency, Accountability and Responsibility in Public Service’ for 2010 which is an internationally recognized award.
In a democracy the highest power rests with the people. And therefore grievances of the people and their petitions need to be disposed off in a manner that justice is done. This is an acid test for any good governance. It is in this connection that the state government had brought about SWAGAT online redress of public grievance project and due to proper use of technology we could achieve this success. In future too I am sure the people will be getting quick redress of their grievances through SWAGAT online.
In the year of Swarnim Jayanti-2010 Gujarat had the honour of being recognized internationally with the United Nations conferring this award. This is indeed a proud moment for all of us.
