Chief Minister Narendra Modi hands over appointment letters to 1,092 drivers and conductors, resolves to make GSRTC best public transport system in India

Gandhinagar, Friday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narenra Modi handed over appointment letters to 1,092, including 561 drivers and 531 conductors, in Gujarat State Transport Corporation, popularly called ST, at a function here today.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that ST had appointed 7.660 employees during the last six years. He said that not all young people could pursue higher education for want of money, but they could upgrade their skill through government’s scheme like EMPOWER in computer courses, necessary for qualitative change in life.

He said the state government has appointed about 3-lakh people in various departments in the recent past through online transparent method, without any complaint of irregularity.

Mr. Modi expressed his resolve to make ST in Gujarat as the best public transport system in India, and construct a series of modern bus stations. He said that fresh life has been infused into ST, much maligned for its rickety services in the past. If the employees lend support, he said, the government could provide cheaper and better bus service. The breakdown rate has been brought down from 13/lakh-km to 3/lakh-km, and the accient rate from one in every 3/lakh-km down to 1/11 lakh-km. The number of girls availing free passes in ST has increased from 44,000 before 2006 to nearly 3-lakh now. He proposed to make ST service as efficient as BRTS and 108 Emergency Ambulance Service.

Finance and Transport Minister Vajubhai Vala said that rights and duty are the two sides of a coin and must exist together. He called upon the ST employees to work for the service of the commuters, keeping in line with Gujarat Government’s mantra for development ‘ Sauno Saath, Sauno Vikas’.

GSRTC Chairman Babubhai Ghodasara said the ST slogan for development in ‘Vadhu Bus, Sari Bus’, meaning ‘More Buses, Better Buses’. He said that Gujarat Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Narendra Modi has extended assistance of Rs.1,600-crore to ST to make it pro-people.

Principal Secretary I.P. Gautam, GSRTC MD Mykesh Puri and other Directors, besides family members of the newly appointed drivers and conductors were present at the function.
