``பூமி தினம் என்பது அன்னை பூமிக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தும் தினமாகும். நமது பூமியை தூய்மையாகவும் பசுமையாகவும் வைப்பதற்கு உறுதியான தீர்மானத்தை வலியுறுத்தக் கூடிய நாளாகவும் உள்ளது.
பூமியை நாம் பகிர்ந்து கொள்ளக்கூடிய தாவரங்கள், விலங்குகள் மற்றும் பறவைகளுடன் இணக்கமாக வாழ வேண்டியது நம்முடைய கடமையாகும். இதை நமது எதிர்கால தலைமுறையினருக்கு விட்டுச்செல்ல வேண்டிய கடமை நமக்கு இருக்கிறது.
`சுற்றுச்சூழல் மற்றும் பருவநிலை கல்வியறிவு' என்ற இந்த ஆண்டுக்கான அடிப்படைக் கருத்து, இயற்கை மற்றும் இயற்கை வளங்களைப் பாதுகாப்பது பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வை உருவாக்க உதவும் என்று நான் நம்புகிறேன்.''
