On Thursday 9th January 2014 Shri Narendra Modi addressed a Special Interactive Session on Gujarat organised as a part of the 12th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in New Delhi. Shri Modi talked about the various strands of Gujarat’s development that have benefitted the common people.

Speaking about urbanisation Shri Modi said that it was conventionally believed that urbanisation was a problem but Gujarat changed that thinking and took it as an opportunity. He talked about the mega cities that are coming up in Gujarat and urged the NRIs to visit the website of Dholera and explore the project. Shri Modi spoke on the comprehensive coastal development in Gujarat over the past decade. He even mentioned how the growth in tourism has brought a great impetus to Gujarat’s economic development. Shri Modi opined that technology can play a very important role in bringing together the 2nd generation of the diaspora with India.

Minister of State Shri Pradeepsinh Jadeja and Principal Secretary Shri Pankaj Kumar were present on the occasion.

PM announces ex-gratia from PMNRF

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to the capsizing of a boat in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

The Prime Minister extended his condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this tragic mishap and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. He also noted that the local administration is assisting those affected.

Shri Modi announced that an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be given to the next of kin of each of those who lost their lives, and the injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

The Prime Minister posted on X:

"The loss of lives due to the capsizing of a boat in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, is extremely painful. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this tragic mishap. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local administration is assisting those affected.
