On Thursday July 3rd, 2014 the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met COO of Facebook, Ms. Sheryl Sandberg. In conversation with the Prime Minister, Ms. Sandberg pointed out that how relevant was India for Facebook especially considering the number of users.

PM Shri Narendra Modi highlighted the importance of social media. The Prime Minister said that social media platforms like Facebook could be used for governance and better interaction between the people and governments. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi also talked about the ways in which Facebook could be used to bring more tourists to India.  Shri Nrendra Modi also cited about commemorating Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary year with a special focus on cleanliness and spoke to Ms. Sandberg on how Facebook could assist in this attempt.

Ms. Sheryl Sandberg expressed her views on her Facebook page upon meeting Shri Narendra Modi. Ms. Sandberg expressed her personal appreciation to him for making the education of girls and women a priority as equal opportunity is essential for strengthening all economies and creating a just world.

Ms. Sandberg who was accompanied by Facebook colleagues Marne Levine and Ankhi Das said that they were glad to be able to congratulate him on his election, and on his exceptional use of Facebook to connect with voters. She welcomed his thoughts that direct communication with people all over the world is critical to effective governance and Shri Modi plans to continue using Facebook and other social media to communicate with the people of India and the world.

In conclusion, Ms. Sandberg quoted that India is important to the global economy, as well as to Facebook and would continue to work further to bring the next billion generations online.

Prime Minister hails India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement as a historic milestone for bilateral relations

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has expressed delight that the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement will enter into force on 15 July 2026.

The Prime Minister said that the agreement will significantly boost bilateral trade and investment.

Shri Modi stated that the agreement will unlock numerous opportunities for Indian farmers, workers, MSMEs, startups and innovators and contribute meaningfully to the realisation of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The Prime Minister noted that both he and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who are in Evian for the G7 Summit, are very happy with the significant momentum being added to India-UK economic ties.

The Prime Minister wrote on X;

“A historic milestone for India-UK relations.

Delighted to note that the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement will enter into force on 15th July 2026.

This agreement will significantly boost our bilateral trade and investment.
