General Ngo Xuan Lich, Defence Minister of Vietnam, called on Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today.

The Prime Minister fondly recalled his visit to Vietnam in September 2016, during which the bilateral relationship was upgraded to the level of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He added that Vietnam is a key pillar of India’s “Act East” policy.


General Ngo Xuan Lich briefed the Prime Minister on the progress achieved in bilateral defence cooperation. The Prime Minister noted that India and Vietnam have a longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship in the field of defence, and reiterated India’s resolve to strengthen defence ties further.

The Prime Minister said that closer cooperation between India and Vietnam in all sectors will contribute to the stability, security and prosperity of the entire region.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation today with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

President Pezeshkian briefed the Prime Minister on the current situation in Iran and shared his perspective on recent developments in the region.

The Prime Minister expressed deep concern about the evolving security situation in the region and reiterated India’s consistent position that all issues must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

The Prime Minister highlighted India’s priority regarding the safety and well-being of Indian nationals in the region, including in Iran, as also the importance of unhindered transit of energy and goods.

The two leaders agreed to remain in touch.
