After the BRTS project for Ahmedabad city, the government is now resolute to gift the metro rail facility, which will provide the best alternate for commutation to the lakhs of people of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

“A high-power committee was entrusted the task of finalization of route with a view to expediting the work of this ambitious project. The committee then visited the entire route between the two cities, held meetings on different levels and has finalized the metro rail project route”, Mr.Patel said.

Urban Development Minister said that total length of metro rail project route will be 76 km, out of which the Ahmedabad city route will be of 44 km. and the route connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will be of 32 km.

The route connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will cover areas from AEC junction to Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar. Starting from AEC the route will cover Sabarmati, Visat petrol pump, IIT Gandhinagar, Tapovan circle, Koba circle, crossing the state highway-71 and going parallel to Kasturbhai campus, Koba village, PDPU, Raysan village, Dholakuva and finally entering Gandhinagar via Ch road. In Gandhinagar the route will cover Ch-2, Ch-3, Chh road, Police Bhavan, Sachivalaya to Akshardham, while for Mahatma Mandir there will be a separate route from Ch-3 to Pathikashram, reaching to Mahatma Mandir via Kh-3. This entire route will be of around 32 km.

Mr.Patel said that two separate routes are also proposed for connecting GIFT city and Ahmedabad International Airport. Out of this, one route will reach to airport via AEC junction, Motera and hansol. The other route will go via Kasturbhai campus, going parallel to Sabarmati river, covering GNLU and reaching to GIFT city crossing the Sabarmati river.

The state government is in consultation with the technical experts and has initiated the process of phase-wise implementation of the project. Different tasks related to this project include mono-pile testing, finalization of DPR and various technical surveys, which are on the verge of completion, said Mr. Patel.

Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Rail yet another step towards realizing Shri Narendra Modi’s vision towards comprehensive urban development

In the last decade, Shri Narendra Modi has dreamt of providing Gujarat’s cities with top class facilities be it in the field of infrastructure, transportation or giving a facelift to the cultural landscape of the city.

Some of Shri Modi’s efforts towards strengthening urban development can be seen in the manner in which the Sabarmati Riverfront has development. Earlier known as a ground to play cricket or hold circuses, the Sabarmati Riverfront is today a vibrant blend of culture, recreation as well as aesthetic charm. Recently, KPMG declared the project among the 100 most innovative projects among the world.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is the proud recipient of a special mention in the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize 2012 for development in the field of urban development. In giving the special mention, the prize officials cited the Sabarmati Riverfront, the BRTS and the Kankaria Lake Redevelopment as fine examples of urban development.

Ahmedabad’s BRTS Janmarg has already made a mark for itself as a transport system that has revolutionized urban transport by providing comfortable and cost effective travel to the citizens of Ahmedabad.

Cabinet approves integration and continuation of two schemes under umbrella scheme SARTHAK-PDS
May 27, 2026
Centre to spend Rs. 25,530 crore in next 5 years for SARTHAK PDS
Continuation of schemes to ensure last-mile delivery of Food grains with higher FPS Dealers’ commission
Government strive for intelligently optimized PDS operations through advanced technologies to ensure transparency, security and sustainability in PDS operations

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of the “Scheme for Assistance in Ration Transport and Handling-Income with Automation in PDS” (SARTHAK PDS) as an umbrella scheme, in the 16th Finance Commission cycle award period, with an outlay of Rs. 25,530 crore as Central share.

The CCEA has also decided to revise the norms of Central assistance for meeting expenditure incurred by States/UTs intra-state movement & handling of foodgrains and FPS dealers’ margin and continuation of the existing funding pattern of Central Assistance.

The Scheme is conceived as an umbrella scheme integrating the ongoing schemes: (i) “Assistance to State Agencies for intra-State movement of foodgrains and FPS dealers’ margin under NFSA” and (ii) “Scheme for Modernization and Reforms through Technology in Public Distribution System (SMART PDS)” to comprehensively strengthen implementation of the National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA).

SARTHAK-PDS Scheme aims to provide (a) assured financial support for intra-State movement, handling and FPS dealer’s margin, and (b) a unified, citizen-centric, intelligent and interoperable PDS architecture that ensures last-mile service delivery, minimizes leakages and strengthens the nation’s commitment to food security under NFSA, with the merged scheme to operate up to 31.03.2031.

SARTHAK-PDS Scheme seeks to modernize, integrate and intelligently optimize PDS operations through advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Blockchain, by creating standardized architectures and unified databases for real-time monitoring, AI-driven grievance and analytics systems, State Command Control Centres for data-driven oversight, and ISO-certified process frameworks to ensure transparency, security and sustainability in PDS operations.

Government of India has a social & legal commitment to the people of the nation - a dignified life by ensuring them access to food and nutritional security through the availability of adequate quantities of quality food grains. The Scheme will work towards fulfilling the Government of India's commitment to 81.35 crore persons covered under NFSA. Building on the statutory and policy framework, SARTHAK-PDS retains and streamlines the financial assistance component while simultaneously embedding it within a modern, technology-driven PDS ecosystem.

Over the past decade, the Government has implemented multiple digitization initiatives such as End-to-End Computerization of TPDS, Integrated Management of PDS (IM-PDS) and SMART PDS, along with citizen-facing applications like Mera Ration, Anna Mitra, Rightful Targeting Dashboard and Anna Sahayata, and since 1st April 2023, the SMART PDS scheme has acted as the cornerstone of technology-led reforms by enabling complete digitization of ration cards, Aadhaar seeding, FPS automation through e-PoS, online allocation and computerized supply-chain management across 36 States/UTs.
