PM Modi addressed the Sansad Khel Mahotsav via video conferencing and interacted with young athletes from across the country. Calling the initiative a people’s movement, he said the scale of participation reflects the growing sporting culture in India.

Responding to participants, PM Modi noted that the Sansad Khel Mahotsav has reached over one crore young athletes from cities, villages and small towns. He said that it was encouraging to see children and youth speak with confidence about their sports journeys and aspirations. He observed that such platforms give talent from every corner of the country a chance to shine.

During the interaction, the PM highlighted the inclusive nature of the Mahotsav, appreciating the participation of divyang athletes and stating that sports belong to everyone. He remarked that when youth play together, they learn teamwork, discipline and resilience, values that shape both character and citizenship.

PM Modi highlighted that before 2014, India’s sports budget was less than Rs. 1,200 crore, which has now increased to over Rs. 3,000 crore. He also noted that under the TOPS scheme, athletes receive monthly assistance ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 50,000 to support their training and performance.

The Prime Minister added that India must now aim to top the medal table at global sporting events. He noted that India will host major international sports events in the coming years, including the Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in 2030, which will place the world’s spotlight on the country. The PM further stated that it presents a major opportunity for young athletes and highlighted that India is also making efforts to host the Olympic Games in 2036.

PM Modi said the enthusiasm and determination shown by young players clearly demonstrate how sports are strengthening the foundation of a fitter, disciplined and self-confident India. He added that initiatives like Sansad Khel Mahotsav are not only creating athletes but also nurturing responsible and resilient citizens who will contribute to nation-building.
