Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed a huge public meeting at Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh, where he spoke at length about the multiple development initiatives of the Centre and steps taken by the Government to enhance quality of life for the citizens. The PM also lambasted the Congress party for spreading lies ignoring welfare of Chhattisgarh.

Interacting with the enthusiastic crowd, the Prime Minister said that for the BJP, ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ was the only mantra and it never discriminated anyone on the grounds of caste and gender. Upholding Congress responsible for lack of development in Chhattisgarh, the PM said, “When Madhya Pradesh was ruled by Congress and Chhattisgarh was a part of it, everyone knows what the people here had to suffer. Congress never thought about the aspirations of people of the region.”

Alleging the Congress party of supporting the urban Maoists, the PM urged the people of Chhattisgarh to teach a fitting lesson to the Congress leaders, who on one hand were trying to shield the urban Maoists and while in Chhattisgarh, spoke about freeing the state from Maoists.

“For 10 years, Congress was at Centre, but they did not pay attention towards the needs of Chhattisgarh. They never thought of the region's progress”, he added.

In a scathing attack on the Congress for its vote-bank politics, the PM stated, “Congress always considers the poor, dalits, tribal communities and the marginalised as their vote-bank.” Adding that the Congress never thought of empowering the tribal communities, Shri Modi said, “It was Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji who thought about their welfare and created a tribal affairs ministry.”

Citing welfare measures for the tribal communities like categorisation of bamboo as a grass and promoting their culture and traditions at a larger level, the PM noted how some Congress leaders had mocked him for wearing a traditional headgear during a tribal community festival in the Northeast. He said that such an insult of the tribal communities was unacceptable.

Shri Modi listed out the development measures undertaken in Chhattisgarh and said that the Centre would remain committed to welfare of the state. “Earlier I had promised that Chhattisgarh would get a double engine for growth and it has happened. Under Raman Singh Ji’s leadership in the state and a development oriented BJP-led government at Centre, we are sparing no efforts in development of Chhattisgarh.”

The Prime Minister expressed grief the recent killing of Doordarshan news cameraperson, Shri Achyutananda Sahu and two jawans of the security forces, by the Maoists. He also hit out at the Congress party for terming the Maoists who killed them as ‘krantikari’ or revolutionaries.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh and other party karyakartas were present at the event.
