Narendra Modi mulls developing Surat-Navsari as Twin Cities

Ahmedabad, Sunday: Chief Minister Narendra Modi today dedicated urban projects totaling Rs.264-crore for Surat City completed under Golden Jubilee Chief Minister’s Urban Development Projects.

Speaking at a function to mark the events, he said the projects include a bridge on the Tapi to connect Kapodra and Utran, Rs.50-crore drinking water and Rs.132-crore drainage project for newly included localities in Katargam Zone in Surat Municipal Corporation. He said that plans are there now to develop Surat-Navsari as Twin Cities.

He said that Gujarat has won 75 per cent of national awards for excellent work in urban development, thanks to fiscal management in sync with project execution. It was due to Gujarat Government’s farsighted policies that the underwater table has come up by 3 to 13 metres in different regions of the state.

Giving an outline of ongoing works, he said, some development project or the other is taking shape somewhere or the other in a diameter of 25 km in the state. It could have possible only because we did not allow ‘hand’ to lay its hand in public money.

Urban Development and Water Resources Minister Nitin Patel informed that development works worth Rs.600-crore have been allotted by the Chief Minister to Surat. He said that Surat is the pride of Gujarat.

City Mayor Rajendra Desai delivered the welcome address and assured to provide all civic amenities to the newly included localities under the jurisdiction of Surat Municipal Corporation by 2013.

Prime Minister shares Sanskrit Subhashitam highlighting the transformative power of true knowledge
May 26, 2026

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, said that true knowledge paves the way for the welfare of the nation, society and the entire humanity. He noted that it is important that our knowledge and actions become a source of inspiration for all humankind.

The Prime Minister shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam-

“आत्मा शुद्धः सदा नित्यः सुखरूपः स्वयम्प्रभः।

अज्ञानान्मलिनो भाति ज्ञानाच्छुद्धो भवत्ययम्‌।। ”

The Subhashitam conveys that the the Ātman is by nature always pure, eternal, blissful, and self-luminous. However, because of ignorance, it appears impure; through true knowledge, it once again reveals its pure nature.

The Prime Minister wrote on X;

“सच्चा ज्ञान देश, समाज और समस्त मानवता के कल्याण का मार्ग प्रशस्त करता है। इसलिए यह जरूरी है कि हमारा ज्ञान और हमारे कर्म पूरी मानवता के लिए प्रेरणा बनें।

आत्मा शुद्धः सदा नित्यः सुखरूपः स्वयम्प्रभः।

अज्ञानान्मलिनो भाति ज्ञानाच्छुद्धो भवत्ययम्‌।।”
