Myanmar is a key pillar of India’s “Act East” Policy, says PM Modi

Sr. Gen. U Min Aung Hliang, Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Defence Services called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.

Condemning the recent terrorist attack on pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra, Sr. Gen. U Min Aung Hliang expressed his sincere condolences for the victims of the attack.

The Prime Minister conveyed his condolences at the loss of lives of Myanmar armed forces personnel and their families in the tragic air crash of 7 June 2017.

Sr. Gen. U Min Aung Hliang briefed the Prime Minister about bilateral defence and security cooperation. The Prime Minister appreciated the close cooperation between the Armed forces of India and Myanmar.

The Prime Minister said that Myanmar is a key pillar of India’s “Act East” Policy, and expressed his firm commitment to strengthen the bilateral relationship in all areas.

Prime Minister shares Sanskrit Subhashitam emphasising on wisdom and honour in victory

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, said that the Beating Retreat ceremony symbolizes the conclusion of the Republic Day celebrations, and displays the strength of India’s rich military heritage. "We are extremely proud of our armed forces who are dedicated to the defence of the country" Shri Modi added.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi,also shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam emphasising on wisdom and honour as a warrior marches to victory.

"एको बहूनामसि मन्य ईडिता विशं विशं युद्धाय सं शिशाधि।

अकृत्तरुक्त्वया युजा वयं द्युमन्तं घोषं विजयाय कृण्मसि॥"

The Subhashitam conveys that, Oh, brave warrior! your anger should be guided by wisdom. You are a hero among the thousands. Teach your people to govern and to fight with honour. We want to cheer alongside you as we march to victory!

The Prime Minister wrote on X;

“आज शाम बीटिंग रिट्रीट का आयोजन होगा। यह गणतंत्र दिवस समारोहों के समापन का प्रतीक है। इसमें भारत की समृद्ध सैन्य विरासत की शक्ति दिखाई देगी। देश की रक्षा में समर्पित अपने सशस्त्र बलों पर हमें अत्यंत गर्व है।
