On the morning of Wednesday 10th July 2013 Shri Narendra Modi joined the Rath Yatra procession at Ahmedabad’s old city. He performed the Pahind Vidhi ritual, which involves the cleaning of the path for Lord Jagannath. He also pulled the chariot of Lord Jagannath out of the temple premises. 

Speaking on the sidelines of the Yatra Shri Modi said, “The Rath Yatra at Puri and Ahmedabad are known all over the world. For the last 136 this Yatra has been going and today once again Lord Jagannath is setting out to give His blessings to the people.”

This is the 12th time Shri Modi has performed this ceremony at the temple. He said, “It is my privilege that time and again I have got the opportunity to come to Lord Jagannath and seek his blessings. We pray for peace, Sadbhavana, unity, happiness and prosperity for the people. The monsoons have started and let us hope with the blessings of Lord Jagannath the entire nation gets very good rain so that it benefits our villages, farmers and the poor.”

He wished the Kutchi community on the occasion of the Kutchi New Year Ashadhi Bij.

PM announces ex-gratia from PMNRF

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today expressed deep sadness over the mishap caused by the collapse of a building in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

Expressing that his thoughts are with the affected families in this difficult hour, Shri Modi prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased. The Prime Minister further noted that Rs. 50,000 would be provided to those who sustained injuries in the incident.

The Prime Minister wrote on X:

"Deeply saddened by the mishap due to the collapse of a building in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families in this difficult hour. May those injured recover at the earliest.

An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM"
