Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Prime Minister of Belgium Mr. Charles Michel on the sidelines of the High Level Segment of the 74th Session of the UNGA in New York on 25th September 2019.

PM Modi congratulated PM Charles Michel on his election as the President of the European Council.

Both leaders reviewed the excellent relations between India and Belgium and the follow up decisions taken during the visit of His Majesty the King of Belgium to India in 2017.

They discussed intensification of strategic and security relations between India and the EU. They agreed to intensify their efforts on early conclusion of negotiations on the Bilateral Investment and Trade Agreement, connectivity, closer cooperation on counter-terrorism, multilateral institutions, and migration and mobility.

The two leaders also agreed that the 15th India-EU Summit should be held at an early date.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam today highlighting that effort, self-control, skill, vigilance, patience, memory, and initiating any task with thoughtful consideration are the fundamental causes of progress.

The Prime Minister remarked that hard work performed with patience and dedication can yield remarkable success, further pointing out that it also infuses the nation's prosperity and strength with fresh vigor.

The Prime Minister wrote on X:

"संयम और समर्पण के साथ किया गया परिश्रम अद्भुत सफलता दे सकता है। इससे राष्ट्र की समृद्धि और सामर्थ्य को भी एक नई ऊर्जा मिलती है।

उत्थानं संयमो दाक्ष्यमप्रमादो धृतिः स्मृतिः।

समीक्ष्य च समारम्भो विद्धिमूलं भवस्य तु॥"

Effort, self-control, skill, vigilance, patience, memory and initiating any task with thoughtful consideration, these are all the fundamental causes of progress.
