Amidst warm welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Ottawa, Canada on Tuesday, April 14th. It marked the beginning of last leg of Shri Modi’s three nation tour. A huge crowd gathered near the airport to see PM Modi. Shri Modi himself went up to them and shook hands.

PM of Canada, Mr. Stephen Harper, himself welcomed PM Narendra Modi taking to twitter to which Shri Modi also replied back.

A ceremonial reception was given to Prime Minister Modi. The PM of Canada himself received Shri Modi warmly.

PM Modi also presented the Canadian counterpart a traditional Indian miniature painting showing Guru Nanak Dev with his disciples Bhai Bala and Bhai Mardana. The special artwork was made by a Jaipur-based artist, Virendra Bannu using handmade paper with mineral colours.

He also held a fruitful meeting with Canada's Governor General David Johnston at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

At the Joint Press meet, PM Modi highlighted the growing India-Canada ties. Focussing on the trade potential, the PM considered Canada to be a key partner in every area of India's national development priority. The PM assured Canada about the transformations taking place in India making India one of the fastest growing economies in the world. He also praised the vision and leadership of PM Harper.

PM Shri Modi termed the India-Canada ties as natural partnership of shared values. Strongly condemning terrorism that had gripped both the nations in the past Shri Modi called for promoting a comprehensive global strategy, and consistent policy and action against all sources of terrorism. PM Narendra Modi also sought to enhance our defence and security cooperation with Canada. He expressed his part of content about the agreement on procurement of uranium from Canada.

Later, PM Narendra Modi and PM of Canada flew to Toronto, where an electrifying crowd waited eagerly for PM Modi at Ricoh Coliseum. At the airport a huge number of people gathered to receive PM Modi warmly. There was tremendous enthusiasm amongst the Indian Diaspora as soon as Shri Narendra Modi reached the venue.

Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister highlighted the strength that India-Canada partnership had. Optimistic about the numerous pacts inked between both the Nations, Shri Modi said that a new atmosphere of trust was developed between India and Canada. The PM presented his dream of developed India where there were opportunities for the youth.

Wrapping up his stopover, the PM took to twitter and thanked the people of Toronto and PM Harper for the warm reception. He also shared a few glimpses from the event with all his admirers.

Prime Minister reaffirms commitment to wildlife conservation on World Wildlife Day; shares Sanskrit Subhashitam

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi said that World Wildlife Day is about celebrating the incredible faunal diversity that enriches our planet and sustains our ecosystems. He said it is a day to acknowledge everyone working towards wildlife protection and reaffirm our commitment to conservation, sustainable practices and protecting habitats so that wildlife continues to thrive.

The Prime Minister noted that India cherishes being home to some of the world’s most extraordinary wildlife. He highlighted that India is home to over 70% of the world’s tiger population, has the largest population of the one-horned rhino and the maximum number of Asiatic elephants. He further stated that India is the only place in the world where the majestic Asiatic lion thrives.

The Prime Minister underlined that the Government has undertaken numerous efforts for wildlife protection. These include the setting up of the International Big Cat Alliance as an exceptional forum to share best practices with fellow nations. Other efforts include initiatives aimed at protecting the Great Indian Bustard, Gharial and Sloth Bear, as well as the translocation of cheetahs.

Emphasising India’s cultural ethos, the Prime Minister said that our scriptures pray for the welfare of all living beings and inspire sensitivity towards wildlife along with conservation. He shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam on this occasion which says-

“निर्वनो वध्यते व्याघ्रो निर्व्याघ्रं छिद्यते वनम्। तस्माद् व्याघ्रो वनं रक्षेद् वनं व्याघ्रं च पालयेत्॥”

The Subhashitam conveys that without forests, tigers perish; and without tigers, forests are destroyed. Therefore, the tiger protects the forest and the forest protects the tiger, underscoring the deep interdependence of nature.

In a series of X posts, Shri Modi said;
