Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today inaugurated Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Mandira at Sri Kshetra Adichunchanagiri in Mandya, Karnataka. Highlighting the deep spiritual resonance of the event, the Prime Minister expressed his profound gratitude for the opportunity to witness the grand inauguration of the Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Temple and interact with highly elevated saints. He noted that spending time at the historic Jwala Peetha and addressing the massive gathering of devotees evoked powerful emotions that were beyond words. "These divine experiences will forever remain etched in my memory," remarked PM Modi.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister underscored the unique blend of 'Tattvagyan' (philosophy) and 'Tantragyan' (technology) that defines Karnataka, drawing special attention to the welcoming nature of the people in the 'Sakkare Nagara' (Sugar City) of Mandya. He observed that institutions like the Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math serve as a moral and spiritual compass for the region. "Karnataka is a land where the depth of philosophy perfectly meets the power of modern technology," stated Shri Modi.

Reflecting on India's vibrant, millennia-old civilization, the Prime Minister emphasized the rare and unbroken continuity of traditions embodied by the 2000-year-old history of the Sri Adichunchanagiri Math. He commended the profound spiritual guidance of past luminaries like Dr. Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji and praised the current leadership for advancing this legacy with renewed vigor. "This sacred institution has enriched our land with its tradition of service for generations," noted PM Modi.

Detailing the transformative role of great saints in society, the Prime Minister pointed out that Dr. Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji's spiritual prowess was deeply connected to resolving the struggles of the common man and rural youth. He elaborated on how the divine personality viewed devotion not as an escape, but as an active responsibility to uplift the masses. "True devotion is stepping forward to take responsibility for the welfare of society," affirmed Shri Modi.

Highlighting the wide-ranging philanthropic initiatives of the Mahaswamiji, the Prime Minister noted the establishment of numerous educational institutions offering everything from primary schooling to professional degrees for underprivileged children. He added that the Math's visionary approach to healthcare ensured that quality medical services reached everyone without discrimination. "Quality healthcare must be an accessible right for every citizen, not a privilege for a select few," asserted Shri Modi.

Drawing parallels between the Math's humanitarian efforts and the government's welfare policies, the Prime Minister highlighted the success of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in providing free hospital treatments to crores of poor citizens. He further elaborated on the recent expansion of the scheme to cover all senior citizens above the age of 70. "We are ensuring that our elderly receive vital healthcare facilities with dignity," said Shri Modi.

Reflecting on Mahaswamiji's boundless compassion for all living beings, the Prime Minister commended his dedicated social movement to protect peacocks, linking it to both environmental conservation and India's cultural heritage. Drawing from his personal observations at his Delhi residence, he shared his fond interactions with the national bird. "The peacock is not only our national pride but a profoundly beautiful and peaceful creature," remarked Shri Modi.

Praising the current Jagadguru, Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji, the Prime Minister highlighted his dedication to bringing positive changes to people's lives by faithfully following in his Guru's footsteps. He articulated that the newly constructed Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Temple transcends a mere physical structure to become a true realization of deep spiritual devotion. "This temple will undoubtedly serve as a lasting beacon of service and inspiration," affirmed Shri Modi.

Outlining the nine foundational principles of the Sri Adichunchanagiri Math, spanning food, education, health, spirituality, and compassion, the Prime Minister drew inspiration to propose a collective national resolution. He urged the citizens to embrace these values by focusing on nine specific areas of societal interest. "I place nine crucial requests before you today to strengthen our collective resolve," noted Shri Modi.

Detailing the first five requests, the Prime Minister urged the people of Mandya to champion water conservation, plant trees under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, and maintain rigorous cleanliness across all public and religious spaces. He also called for a renewed focus on self-reliance by adopting Indian products and promoting domestic tourism to explore the nation's immense beauty. "We must protect Mother Earth and actively strengthen our domestic industries," asserted Shri Modi.

Highlighting the importance of health and agriculture, the Prime Minister encouraged farmers to adopt natural farming and urged the younger generation to embrace millets and 'Ragi Mudde', a regional staple championed by Shri H.D. Deve Gowda. He also advocated for reducing cooking oil by 10 percent to combat obesity, integrating fitness into daily life, and upholding a lifelong spirit of service. "Making yoga and healthy eating a priority is essential for our daily lives," observed Shri Modi.

Prime Minister urges MPs to vote in favour of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam Amendment, Calls it Historic Opportunity
April 17, 2026

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has highlighted that a discussion is currently underway in Parliament on the amendment to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, noting that deliberations continued till 1 AM last night.

He stated that all misconceptions surrounding the amendment have been addressed with logical responses, and every concern raised by members has been resolved. The Prime Minister added that necessary information, wherever lacking, has also been provided to all members, ensuring that issues of opposition have been clarified.

Emphasising that the issue of women’s reservation has witnessed political debates for nearly four decades, the Prime Minister said that the time has now come to ensure that women, who constitute half of the country’s population, receive their rightful representation.

He observed that even after decades of independence, the low representation of women in the decision-making process is not appropriate and needs to be corrected.

The Prime Minister informed that voting in the Lok Sabha is expected shortly and urged all political parties to take a thoughtful and sensitive decision by voting in favour of the women’s reservation amendment.

Appealing on behalf of the women of the country, he urged all Members of Parliament to ensure that no action hurts the sentiments of Nari Shakti. He noted that crores of women are looking towards the Parliament, its intent, and its decisions.

The Prime Minister called upon MPs to reflect upon their families-mothers, sisters, daughters, and wives—and listen to their inner conscience while making the decision.

He described the amendment as a significant opportunity to serve and honour the women of the nation and urged members not to deprive them of new opportunities.

Expressing confidence, the Prime Minister said that if the amendment is passed unanimously, it will further strengthen Nari Shakti as well as the country’s democracy.

Calling it a historic moment, he urged all members to come together to create history by granting rightful representation to women, who form half of India’s population.

The Prime Minister wrote on X;

"Parliament is discussing a historic legislation that paves the way for women’s reservation in legislative bodies. The discussions, which began yesterday, lasted till around 1 AM and have continued since the House proceedings began this morning.

The Government has addressed all apprehensions and misconceptions relating to the legislation with facts and logic. All concerns have been addressed and any gaps in information have also been filled.

For nearly four decades, this issue of women’s reservation in legislative bodies has been inordinately delayed. Now is the time to ensure that half of the nation’s population receives its rightful due in decision making. Even after so many decades of Independence, it is not right that women in India have such limited representation in this area.

In a short while from now, voting will take place in the Lok Sabha. I urge and appeal to all political parties to reflect carefully and take a sensitive decision by voting in favour of women’s reservation.

On behalf of our Nari Shakti, I also request all members not to do anything that may hurt the sentiments of women across India. Crores of women are watching us…our intent and our decisions. I once again request that everyone support the amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.”

"I would like to appeal to all Members of Parliament…

Please reflect upon your conscience, remembering the women in your own families.

The legislation to ensure women’s reservation in legislative bodies is a significant opportunity to do justice to women of our nation.

Please do not deprive our Nari Shakti of new opportunities.

If this amendment is passed unanimously, it will further empower the women of our country and strengthen our democracy.

Let us come together today to create history.

Let us ensure that the women of India, who are half of the nation’s population, receive their rightful due.”
