Ahead of the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed a massive rally in Barrackpore, energising the crowd with a powerful and emotive speech. Drawing from history to the present, PM Modi invoked Barrackpore’s legacy as the cradle of India’s first war of independence in 1857, positioning it as a symbol of change once again. “Barrackpore paving way for change in Bengal”, he added.

"This very land of Barrackpore gave strength to India’s first war of independence in 1857. Today, it is paving the path for transformation in Bengal," the PM said. He noted the resounding sentiment among the people, adding, "Everywhere, one voice echoes - ‘Paltano Dorkar, Chai BJP Shorkar.’"

Highlighting the unprecedented enthusiasm during the campaign, PM Modi remarked, “Despite the heat and countless rallies, I have not felt even a trace of fatigue in Bengal. The energy of the people here keeps me going.” Calling his roadshows like a pilgrimage, he added, “Among the devotees of Maa Kali, I feel constantly blessed with renewed energy.”

Expressing gratitude, he said, “You have come from far and wide to bless me. I am deeply grateful. I leave with the belief that after May 4, I will return for the swearing-in ceremony of a BJP government.”

The Prime Minister spoke at length about his bond with the people. “For decades, I have travelled across the country as a party karyakarta. I do not see day or night, I find my happiness among the people. You are my family,” he said.

He shared moving anecdotes from the campaign trail, including a young woman who waited from early morning just to meet him. “I regret not being able to meet her, but I am confident I will someday. Her blessings are with me,” he added.

Positioning the election as pivotal not just for Bengal but for eastern India, PM Modi said, “When Ang (Bihar), Bang (Bengal) and Kalinga (Odisha) were strong, India prospered. Today, for India to achieve its development goals, these regions must rise together.” He expressed confidence in a political shift, stating, “Bihar and Odisha have already chosen development. Now it is Bengal’s turn, this time the lotus will bloom here too.”

Contrasting BJP’s vision with the ruling TMC, PM Modi criticised the lack of accountability. “Those who ruled for 15 years have no report card, no roadmap. Their formula is abuse and threats. They have targeted Modi, constitutional institutions and even the armed forces with their derogatory remarks. TMC leaders have also intimidated the people of Bengal,” he said.

He highlighted industrial decline in the Barrackpore belt, pointing to closed jute mills and rising lawlessness. “Where factories once thrived, now bombs and bullets echo. This must change,” he asserted, promising revival through Make in India initiatives.

Outlining key assurances in Barrackpore, PM Modi promised transparent government recruitment, expansion of the creative economy, rural employment guarantees and support for street vendors.

On women’s empowerment, he said, “Daughters’ education, income, healthcare, safety and dignity are our priority.” He also assured implementation of major welfare schemes, including Ayushman Bharat and financial support for women across life stages. Also, he announced that the Ayushman Bharat scheme will be implemented in West Bengal in the very first Cabinet meeting of a BJP government.

Invoking Bengal’s cultural and nationalist legacy, PM Modi said, “Vande Mataram once became the mantra of freedom. In the 21st century, it must become the mantra of Bengal’s development. He added, “The City of Joy must also become the City of the Future in the 21st century. This is the task before us.”

In his closing appeal, he urged voters to choose change: “You have given 70 years to others. Give BJP one chance. Together, we will free Bengal- from violence, corruption, syndicates, infiltration and unemployment.” The rally concluded with a strong call for voter participation, as PM Modi positioned the election as a decisive moment for Bengal’s future and India’s eastern growth story.
