The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today described the "Right To Information" Act as a tool through which the common man has got not just the right to know, but also the right to question those in power.
In his remarks at the 10th Annual Convention of the Central Information Commission (CIC), the Prime Minister said that the Union Government's "Digital India" initiative is complimentary to RTI, because putting information online brings transparency, which in turn, builds trust.
The Prime Minister mentioned the auctions of coal blocks, spectrum and FM radio licenses, and said that information should be given out proactively to people.
The Prime Minister called for an end to the silo-approach in Government. He said administrative processes should be run based on trusting the people, rather than doubting the people.
The Prime Minister said RTI has become a tool for good governance. He also described how the PRAGATI platform developed in the PMO has become a vibrant platform for monitoring progress of projects.

PM Modi interacted with BJP booth karyakartas across Assam as a part of the ‘Mera Booth, Sabse Mazboot’ programme via NaMo App. He energised booth-level members and reaffirmed that every booth remains the foundation of the party’s strength and electoral success. He hailed the true spirit of Assam, calling it a powerful force driving BJP’s growth in the Northeast.
Opening the interaction, PM Modi described himself as a karyakarta first, expressing pride in working alongside the grassroots cadre. He lauded booth karyakartas for their tireless dedication, emphasising that their connect with every household is the BJP’s greatest strength. “Booth jeetoge toh chunav jeetoge,” he reiterated.
Highlighting Assam’s transformation over the past decade, PM Modi underlined the shift from instability and violence to peace, progress, and prosperity under the double engine government. He noted that over a dozen key peace agreements have brought lasting stability, especially in regions like Bodoland.
He stressed the importance of educating first-time voters about Assam’s past challenges, urging karyakartas to actively communicate the contrast between earlier regimes marked by unrest and the current era of stability. He encouraged innovative booth-level engagements to emotionally connect with voters while showcasing developmental achievements.
PM Modi also called for focused outreach to beneficiaries of key welfare schemes such as PM Awas Yojana, PM-Kisan, Ujjwala, and others, urging workers to compile beneficiary lists and strengthen direct engagement. He emphasised turning polling day into a Jan Utsav, with collective participation ensuring maximum voter turnout. Encouraging youth and women’s participation, PM Modi praised Assam’s Nari Shakti and highlighted initiatives empowering women economically and socially. He urged workers to leverage platforms like the NaMo App and social media to share real-life stories.
Addressing key regional concerns, PM Modi underscored the importance of protecting Assam’s identity and tackling issues like illegal infiltration, calling it not just a political issue but one of security, culture, and justice. He urged karyakartas to raise awareness at the grassroots and support efforts ensuring the rights and dignity of indigenous communities.
He also highlighted the empowerment of tea garden workers through land rights and welfare schemes, calling it a historic step towards dignity and long-term security for lakhs of families.
Reaffirming the guiding principles of ‘Seva, Sangathan, and Samarpan’, PM Modi said that Assam’s BJP karyakartas embody the true spirit of the organisation.
