Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today called for making the system of criminal justice stronger through research in Forensic Nanotechnology.

Inaugurating the first international conference on ‘Forensic Nanotechnology’ here, he said the Nanotechnology has the capacity to scientifically solve many of our problems and might soon leave a mark on almost every walk of social life. He said there is an urgent need to create competent trained technocrats to face the challenge, too.

The Chief Minister recalled how utilizing forensic science for the benefit of the mankind was thought in Gujarat, as a result of which was taken a global initiative to start the Forensic Sciences University here, inviting experts from different parts of the country and abroad.

Hon'ble CM at International Conference on Nano Technology

In the wake of the criminal world moving towards high-tech and sophisticated crimes, Mr. Modi said, the criminal justice system needed to be made technology-driven, even as forensic science has many success stories in taking crime investigation through conviction.

He said that Gujarat’s Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has earned international laurels for making criminal justice system more effective, and not just a pathological laboratory. He said the tradition of applying vermillion in the partings between hair at the time of marriage and watching the footprints of caravan of camels in the deserts have their bearings on the modern forensic science.

Nanotechnology expert V. Krishnan from Bangalore described the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as a person with foresight. He wished the Forensic Sciences University would ensure the application of Nanotechnology in forensic science to strengthen the system of criminal justice and revolutionize the fingerprint technology.

Union Minister of State for Home Prafull Patel, Gujarat Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Balwant Singh, Additional Chief Secretary (S&T) Ravi Saxena and Director-General of Police Chittaranjan Singh, among others attended the inaugural session. Nearly 350 forensic scientists, technocrats, legal experts and senior officers of police and security agencies are attending the two-day conference jointly organized by Science City.
