Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, praised the overwhelming response from corporate India to the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme, citing its transformative potential for the youth and the country’s economy. Speaking on the reports that highlight an impressive 81% support from India Inc. for the scheme, the Minister expressed confidence that the initiative would bridge the gap between education and employability while advancing a culture of skill development through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

According to studies conducted by TeamLease and Zeenews, an increasing number of companies have committed to integrating internships into their CSR strategies. Reports indicate that 10% of corporate India plans to onboard interns under the PM Internship Scheme in 2025, marking a milestone for both industry and academia.

Minister Sitharaman emphasized that the PM Internship Scheme is not merely an employment initiative but a comprehensive approach to nurturing a skilled workforce. “This initiative is a step toward empowering our youth with hands-on experience, grooming them to meet the demands of a rapidly progressing global job market” she said.

The reports revealed a growing recognition among businesses that internships are not just beneficial for students but also provide organizations with fresh perspectives, innovative solutions, and a pipeline of future-ready talent. This aligns perfectly with the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, where skill development plays a vital role.

Minister Sitharaman highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration in making the scheme a success. “The PM Internship Scheme is a proof of our government’s dedication to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry. This partnership is crucial in ensuring that our youth acquire practical knowledge and technical skills, to go with their academic learning,” she stated.

She also praised the corporate sector for its proactive role in blending internships into their organizational frameworks. With 81% of India Inc. supporting the scheme, it signifies the industry’s alignment with national priorities. The program provides companies with an opportunity to leverage the energy and creativity of the youth, while students gain exposure to industry standards and work culture.

By integrating internships into their CSR initiatives, companies encourage social development while gaining a skilled workforce. Minister Sitharaman emphasized the dual benefits of the PM Internship Scheme, calling it a “win-win” where students gain practical experience, and businesses build future-ready talent while fulfilling social responsibilities.

“The PM Internship Scheme is designed to benefit not just urban students but also those from rural and underserved communities. We are working to create structures that ensure equal access to opportunities, regardless of geographical or socio-economic barriers,” Minister Sitharaman affirmed.

Minister Sitharaman also expressed optimism about the long-term impact of the PM Internship Scheme on India’s socio-economic fabric. “The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. By preparing them with industry-relevant skills and real-world exposure, we are investing in the future of our nation” she concluded.

As the PM Internship Scheme continues to gain momentum, it stands as a shining example of the government’s resolve to align education, skill development, and employment opportunities. Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s remarks showcase the importance of collective effort in creating an ecosystem where the aspirations of the youth converge with the vision of a self-reliant and prosperous India.
