PM Modi's bilateral meetings on the margins of UNGA in New York

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with leaders from several countries in the sidelines of the UNGA in New York.

Talks with President of Iran:

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met the President of Islamic Republic of Iran H.E. Dr. Hassan Rouhani in New York on the sidelines of the High Level Segment of the 74th Session of UNGA today. They discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.

Noting that India and Iran shared old and civilisational ties, the two leaders positively assessed the progress in bilateral relations since their first meeting at Ufa in 2015. They especially mentioned operationalisation of Chabahar Port and noted it’s importance as gateway to and for the landlocked Afghanistan and the Central Asian region.

Prime Minister reiterated India's support for giving priority to diplomacy, dialogue and confidence building in the interest of maintaining peace, security and stability in the Gulf region, which is of vital importance for India.

It was agreed to mark the 70th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations in 2020.

Discussions with President of Cyprus:

Prime Minister met President of the Republic of Cyprus, H.E. Mr. NicosAnastasiades on the sidelines of the High Level Segment of the UNGA 74.

Both leaders discussion the broad spectrum of bilateral relations, pursuant to the State visit of Hon’ble President of India to Cyprus in September, 2018.

In 2018-19, bilateral trade stood at US$ 464 mn. The two leaders stressed the need to enhance the volume of bilateral trade and investment given the considerable potential and strengths of the two economies.

Prime Minister thanked the government of Cyprus for its support to India’s candidature for UNSC permanent membership in an expanded Security Council, NSG and other international platforms. He reiterated India’s consistent support for the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of the Republic of Cyprus.

They also discussed issues of regional and international significance including the issue of international terrorism.PM Modi invited President Anastasisdes to join the International Solar Alliance.

Prime Minister welcomes passage of SHANTI Bill by Parliament

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has welcomed the passage of the SHANTI Bill by both Houses of Parliament, describing it as a transformational moment for India’s technology landscape.

Expressing gratitude to Members of Parliament for supporting the Bill, the Prime Minister said that it will safely power Artificial Intelligence, enable green manufacturing and deliver a decisive boost to a clean-energy future for the country and the world.

Shri Modi noted that the SHANTI Bill will also open numerous opportunities for the private sector and the youth, adding that this is the ideal time to invest, innovate and build in India.
