Chief Minister honours 21 citizens of Junagadh on the eve of Independence Day

Gujarat sets a new precedence to ‘celebrates’ national festivals to ‘celebrate

development’: Narendra Modi

Ahmedabad, Tuesday: Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said that Gujarat has set a new precedence of celebrating national festivals like Independence Day as festival to celebrate development.

Speaking at a colourful cultural programme at Junagadh, titled ‘Gauravgadh Junagadh’, on the eve of state-level 66th Independence Day function, he said that Gujarat has infused a new approach to accord importance to lesser known places and hoist them as big games.

Even as Gujarat has stepped into the path of all round development, finding a solution to almost every problem, he said it has been possible because the people have reposed faith on the government. He exuded confidence the state would develop further with stability of the government. He said that recent visit to Japan would take Gujarat to new height. The truant monsoon too ultimately favoured the state with delayed rain, reducing the threat of drought.

Going back to pre-1947 days, he recalled that Junagadh could not take part in India’s celebration on August 15, 1947 but tomorrow on August 15, 2012 it will be a memorable day for Junagadh.

Mr. Modi announced special grant of Rs. one crore for each of Junagadh Municipal Corporation, Urban Development and Junagadh District Rural for making the festival memorable. He said that Junagadh will get a medical college like other district places. He announced a rise of cash awards for best performance to villages from Rs.2-lakh to Rs.5-lakh.

He felicitated on this occasion 21 citizens of Junagadh who have left indelible mark in respective fields. They included sportspersons and yoga experts Artiben Baldaniya, Rashmiben Khodbhaya, Kavi Solanki, Alpa Vala, Bharti Solanki, Hetal Ram, RameshSolanki, Gayatri Bhesania, Parita Vala, Dr Anitaben Kataria and Nemish Chauhan; Tejaswi Tarla and Hitarth Goswami in the field of education, Hemant Nanavati in TV theatre, Haji Ramakdu for playing tabla, Kamlesh Puraohit in publiclife, Sanjay Rathod for making 17-lakh friends in FaceBook and 92-year-old tree lover Naranbhai Savalia. He also honoured progressive farmers Ashwin Gadhiya, Chhagan Javia and Kanu Bharathi.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Minister of State Kanubhai Bhalala, legislators and senior officials.
