Gujarat bags Macro Economy Award, continues to register record economic surge

New Delhi: Gujarat has been awarded the “India Today State of the States Award for Macro Economy"  at the State of the States Conclave-2013 organized by the  India Today Group, on 20th December 2013 in New Delhi. The Award, on behalf of Government of Gujarat,  was received by Shri Ashim Khurana, Resident Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Narmada and Water Resources)  from Shri Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister for Rural Development.

Gujarat is one of the leading States in the Indian Federation and is often considered as an engine of national economic growth and a frontline performer in various sectors. Gujarat's robust economic growth relative to other States, gives Gujarat a place of prominence among the other States in the country.

Gujarat’s revenue collection has been strong in almost every sector. This impressive effort has converted Gujarat from a revenue deficient State to a revenue surplus State. The State, on account of its prudent financial management has also reduced its fiscal deficit significantly, well below the limit mandated by the Finance Ministry, while constantly increasing its development expenditure.

Investors prefer a Government that would focus on growth and implement policies that are investor friendly. Shri Modi’s stellar record of Governance in Gujarat , has convinced markets into believing that he is decisive and  can deliver results.

Assigning infrastructure development, as a priority sector, Shri Modi has implemented various infra-related projects in Gujarat, which have given a fillip to growth and has also demonstrated a model for Inclusive Growth amongst the Indian States. Gujarat's pioneering initiatives in various sectors such as Water Management, Disaster Management, Healthcare, Education, Women Empowerment, Rural Development, Industrial development, Investment promotion etc. have been applauded at National and at International level, and have  also been  replicated in some other States of the country.

PM to inaugurate 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth on 15th January

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) on 15th January 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi. Prime Minister will also address the gathering on the occasion.

The Conference will be chaired by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla and will be attended by 61 Speakers and Presiding Officers of 42 Commonwealth countries and 4 semi-autonomous parliaments from different parts of the world.

The Conference will deliberate on a wide range of contemporary parliamentary issues, including the role of Speakers and Presiding Officers in maintaining strong democratic institutions, the use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary functioning, the impact of social media on Members of Parliament, innovative strategies to enhance public understanding of Parliament and citizen participation beyond voting, among others.
