Cabinet approves infusion of equity of Rs.10,700 crore in Food Corporation of India

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved infusion of equity of Rs.10,700 crore for working capital in financial year 2024-25 in Food Corporation of India (FCI). The decision is aimed at bolstering the agricultural sector and ensuring the welfare of farmers nationwide. This strategic move shows the Government's steadfast commitment to supporting farmers and fortifying India's agrarian economy.

FCI started its journey in 1964 with authorised capital of Rs. 100 Crores and equity of Rs. 4 Crores. The operations of FCI increased manifolds resulting in increase of authorised capital from Rs. 11,000 crores to Rs. 21,000 crores in February, 2023. The equity of FCI was Rs. 4,496 Crores in Financial Year 2019-20 which increased to Rs. 10,157 Crores in the Financial Year 2023-24. Now, Government of India has approved significant amount of equity of Rs. 10,700 Crores for FCI which will strengthen it financially and will give a big boost to the initiatives taken for its transformation.

FCI plays a pivotal role in ensuring food security by procurement of food grains at Minimum Support Price (MSP), maintenance of strategic food grain stocks, distribution of food grains for welfare measure and stabilization of food grain prices in the market.

The infusion of Equity is a significant step towards enhancing the operational capabilities of FCI in fulfilling its mandate effectively. FCI resorts to short term borrowings to match the gap of fund requirement. This infusion will help to lower the interest burden and will ultimately reduce the subsidy of Government of India.

The Government's dual commitment to MSP-based procurement and investment in FCI's operational capabilities signifies a collaborative effort towards empowering farmers, fortifying the agricultural sector, and ensuring food security for the nation.

PM to Address Youth at Khelo India Dialogue on 27th August

Yuva Samvaad under Khelo India Dialogue to Focus on Five Key Themes: Sports, Olympic Aspirations, Youth Leadership, Viksit Bharat and Nasha Mukt Yuva

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will address Khelo India Dialogue on 27th August at 11 AM via video conferencing. The programme aims to help the youth engage with India's sporting journey, share their aspirations, and contribute ideas for a stronger youth-led Viksit Bharat.

Organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), as part of the National Sports Day 2026 celebrations, the programme will be conducted across the country with participation of youth at two colleges in every district across States and Union Territories. The programme is being held in line with the Prime Minister's vision of building a fit, disciplined and sporting nation while placing the aspirations of youth at the centre of the national development agenda.

The nationwide Khelo India Dialogue will bring together sports, youth leadership, civic responsibility, volunteering, fitness and nation-building on a common platform. It will provide a direct channel for young people to engage with the country's sporting ambitions, while ensuring that their ideas and perspectives become part of the continuing conversation on India's youth and sports ecosystem.

The national programme will be followed by local interactions involving young participants, MY Bharat volunteers, local sportspersons and public representatives. A major feature of the initiative will be direct interaction between youth having interest in sports and leading Indian athletes and medal winners. A central feature of the programme will be Yuva Samvaad where Young participants will be invited to articulate their own ideas, perspectives and aspirations. The dialogue will be structured around five themes:

  • improving India's sports ecosystem through better facilities, coaching, sports science and inclusive participation;
  • nurturing talent for the 2036 Olympics via scientific talent identification, transparent selection and long-term athlete development;
  • creating youth leaders through governance platforms and MY Bharat-led volunteering;
  • empowering youth for Viksit Bharat by building civic mindedness, future-ready skills and structured volunteering;
  • promoting a Nasha Mukt Yuva movement that leverages sport and peer networks to fight substance abuse, reinforced by weekly Jan Bhagidari activities under PM's 100-week nationwide campaign launched on 2 August 2026.
