प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने देशवासियों से देश के लिए कुछ अलग करने के लिए 2017 को 'संकल्प पर्व' के वर्ष के रूप में मनाने का आग्रह किया। प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि हम सब भारत को गंदगी, गरीबी, आतंकवाद, जातिवाद और सांप्रदायिकता से मुक्त करने का संकल्प लें। उन्होंने जन भागीदारी पर विशेष जोर देते हर कहा कि 'भारत छोड़ो' आंदोलन इसलिए सफल रहा क्योंकि स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में हर किसी ने भाग लिया और इसी तरह 'स्वच्छ भारत' अभियान को सफल बनाने के लिए 125 करोड़ भारतीयों की भागीदारी ज़रूरी है।
प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि भारत आतंकवाद के सामने कभी नहीं झुकेगा। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि जलवायु संरक्षण और प्रकृति की सुरक्षा हमारा दृढ़ विश्वास है, हमारा सिद्धांत है। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने सभी से 9 अगस्त से 'संकल्प से सिद्धि' का महा अभियान शुरू करने की बात कही जिसके तहत हम संकल्प लें और उसे अगले पांच वर्षों में पूरा करने के लिए जुट जाएँ।
