The country's first private sector plant for manufacturing supercritical boilers and turbine generators was inaugurated at Hazira on Tuesday. The plant is a joint venture between Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and L&T.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Sushil Kumar Shinde, Vilasrao Deshmukh and Bharatsinh Solanki were present on the occasion, besides chairman and managing director of L&T A M Naik and Hideaki Omiya, the president of MHI.

Shri Modi said, “L&T also displayed social responsibility during the 2006 floods when its employees helped people in Surat with various technical equipment to remove debris and clear main roads. The turbine centre in India will shine in the world.”
