On the Tuesday 20th November 2012 Shri Narendra Modi travelled to Mumbai to offer his condolences to the family of Shiv Sena Pramukh Shri Balasaheb Thackeray, who passed away on 17th November 2012. The Chief Minister visited Matoshree, the residence Late Shri Balasaheb Thackeray and his family and met Shiv Sena CEO Shri Uddhav Thackeray as well as the rest of the family members. Shri Uddhav Thackeray came outside his residence both to receive and see off Shri Modi during the visit. Shri Modi was accompanied by senior BJP leaders from Mumbai. Earlier, Shri Modi had condoled the passing away of Shri Balasaheb Thackeray. He described Shri Balasaheb Thackeray as a person who was full of life and epitome of courage. He called Shri Thackeray a great cartoonist, independent minded journalist and termed his passing away as the end of an era. The Chief Minister also referred to Shri Balasaheb Thackeray as a guide and said that his loss was a personal loss to him.

Both leaders reiterated the importance of keeping shipping lines open and secure in the interest of the whole world.

The two leaders reviewed progress on various initiatives aimed at strengthening India-Sri Lanka energy cooperation and enhancing regional security.

Prime Minister reiterated India’s firm commitment to work closely together in addressing shared challenges in line with India’s Neighbourhood First policy and MAHASAGAR Vision.

The two leaders agreed to stay in touch.
