Your Excellency, Madam President and distinguished guests,

Members of the media,

I’m delighted to welcome Madame President and her delegation in India.

Excellency,

India is not new to you; you have already visited the country several times in the past. However, your India visit as a President is taking place at a time when we are celebrating the festival of completion of 70 years of India’s independence. This is also the time of completion of seven decades of Indo-Swiss Treaty of Friendship & Establishment. We hope that during this visit you would feel the same warmth and hospitality that we have felt during our visit to Switzerland in 2016.

I am delighted to see that both sides are keen to maintain deep relations at all levels.

Friends,

Today, we had a comprehensive and meaningful discussion on bilateral, regional and global issues. Our strong bilateral relations have progressed further through this visit.

The issues like disarmament and geographical expansion are extremely important for both Switzerland and India. In this context, we are extremely grateful to Switzerland for supporting India’s entry into the MTCR.

We also discussed Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement between Indian and European Free Trade Association. The discussion on the provisions of this agreement has already started. It’s a very welcome step. Both the sides have expressed their commitment to complete this agreement. Today, the issue of transparency in financial transactions is a cause of serious concern for the world. Be it black money or dirty money, or be it money laundering or be it the funds linked to arms and drugs. Our cooperation with Switzerland is ongoing to deal with this global curse.

Last year, we had signed a joint statement for automatic exchange of tax related information. Under this agreement, the information will be automatically shared with us upon completion of the internal processes of Switzerland. Foreign Direct Investment is a crucial basis for our economic relations and India particularly welcomes the Swiss investors. In this context, we have agreed to continue to discuss about the requirement of a new bilateral investment treaty. There are several opportunities for the Swiss companies to become a partner in India’s growth and development.

Today, during our discussion with the business leaders of both the countries, we felt that they have a strong desire to constantly increase the business to business collaboration for mutual benefit.

India’s traditional medicines, particularly Ayurveda, can play an important role in sustaining the health and wellness. I’m happy that Switzerland has recognized Ayurveda and it is keen to have more cooperation in this important sector.

In order to avail benefits from Switzerland in the fields of vocational education and skill, both countries took a joint initiative in the form of SkillSonics; more than five thousand Indians have taken advantage of this initiative. We are willing to extend our cooperation to expand this model.

Friends,

Climate Change is a big challenge faced by every country. We have agreed on the need to implement the Paris agreement on the basis of principal of common but differentiated responsibilities and also to work collectively for developing the ways to implement it. India will be helped in meeting its growing requirement of clean energy by becoming a member of the nuclear supplier group. In this context, we thank you for the constant support of Switzerland to us in getting the membership of NSG.

Initiatives like International Solar Alliance and our efforts to achieve the target of generating 175 Giga Watt of renewable energy by 2022 reflect India’s commitment to clean energy and green future.

Excellency,

I’m confident that this visit of yours will be helpful in taking our relations to a new height. I thank Madame President for an extremely meaningful discussion and I’m keen to jointly work with you in the coming months.

Once again I heartily welcome you and wish you to have a meaningful visit to India.

Thank you very much!

PM Modi sets tone for Assam polls with high-energy Gogamukh rally
April 01, 2026
Assam is world famous for its tea, but soon people will talk about its 'Chip' as well – ‘Chai bhi, Chip bhi’: PM Modi in Assam
Our double engine government understood people's pain, and in just 11 years we built five bridges on the Brahmaputra: PM Modi
The Assam election is about building a Viksit Bharat with a Viksit Assam. The hattrick of the BJP-NDA government is certain: PM Modi
You form the BJP government again and Assam will progress at an even faster pace. This is Modi’s guarantee: PM Modi in Gogamukh

Campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a massive public gathering in Gogamukh, marking his first rally in Assam after the announcement of polls. The event witnessed an overwhelming turnout, with enthusiastic participation from youth, women and local communities, signaling strong momentum for the BJP-led NDA.

Opening his address with high energy, the Prime Minister said, “This is my first public meeting after the announcement of elections in Assam. The sea of people in front of me, the enthusiasm of the youth and the blessings of our mothers and sisters clearly show this time, a hat-trick is certain.” Echoing popular sentiment, he added, “Everyone is saying- ‘Aakou Ebaar… NDA Shorkar!’”

Invoking the spiritual and cultural heritage of Assam, PM Modi remarked, “I am fortunate to begin this campaign with the blessings of Lord Shiva at Ghughuli Dol and Donyi-Polo. I bow to Srimanta Sankardev and pay tribute to great sons of Assam like Lachit Borphukan and Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika.”

Highlighting the development trajectory under BJP governments, PM Modi said, “Under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal and now Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam has witnessed a new era of service and good governance over the past decade.” He emphasized that the election is not just about forming a government but about building a ‘Viksit Assam for a Viksit Bharat.’

Referring to the BJP’s recently released manifesto, he noted, “This ‘Sankalp Patra’ is truly a ‘Mangal Patra’- it brings prosperity for Assam. It lays out a clear roadmap for jobs, self-employment and ₹5 lakh crore investment in infrastructure.”

On women empowerment, he said, “Through the Lakhpati Didi initiative, nearly 3 lakh women in Assam have already become financially independent. Now, we aim to empower 40 lakh women.”

Emphasizing farmers’ welfare, PM Modi said that over ₹7,500 crore has been transferred to 20 lakh farmers under PM-KISAN. He added, “Small farmers will now receive an additional ₹11,000 annually. Our government is also committed to permanent solutions for Assam’s flood problem.”

Contrasting past and present, the PM reiterated, “The youth of today have only seen BJP’s governance. They have not witnessed the dark days of Congress rule when Assam was known for violence, curfews and unrest.”

He added that Assam is now defined by development, citing examples such as refinery expansion, bamboo-based bio-refinery projects, and upcoming semiconductor manufacturing. “Soon, Assam will be known not just for tea, but also for chips. ‘Chai bhi, Chip bhi’-this is our roadmap for a Viksit Assam.”

Targeting the opposition, PM Modi said, “For Congress, power and family come first. They ignored Assam’s development for decades.” He also warned against divisive politics, alleging that Congress is attempting to revive policies of appeasement.

Coming down heavily on Congress, PM Modi said, “The people of Assam have freed the state from Congress’s misgovernance, but must remain vigilant as the party is now attempting to push a ‘dangerous agenda’ for political gain.” He recalled that before 2014, the Congress-led government had tried to introduce a divisive communal violence law aimed at appeasement, which was stopped by the BJP-NDA. He alleged that Congress is once again proposing a similar approach in Assam, exposing its intent to divide society for votes.

The Prime Minister further accused Congress of supporting infiltration and previously allowing illegal encroachments on farmers’ and tribal lands. He asserted that while the BJP-NDA government is taking strict action against such encroachments, Congress is opposing these efforts. Warning that Congress seeks to alter Assam’s demographic balance, he assured that the BJP-NDA government will continue to protect the land, rights and identity of Assam’s people, calling it ‘Modi’s guarantee.’

Highlighting infrastructure growth, the PM pointed out that while only three bridges were built over the Brahmaputra in decades of Congress rule, the BJP government has completed five major bridges in just over a decade, with more underway.

Reaffirming commitment to tribal welfare, PM Modi said, “Our mantra is ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. Those left behind will be brought forward.” He highlighted initiatives for the Missing community, including education in native language and youth employment programs.

Concluding his address, PM Modi urged voters to ensure a record turnout. “On April 9, all voting records must be broken. Every BJP-NDA candidate is a soldier of Assam’s development. Make them victorious.” He ended with a strong assurance: “You form the BJP government again and Assam will progress at an even faster pace. This is Modi’s guarantee.”
