State government has decided to give a land on 99 year lease with a token amount of just one rupee for setting up a campus of IIT-Gandhinagar. Chief Minister Narendra Modi announced this while inaugurating a technology summit organized by IIT-Gandhinagar today. The campus will be set up on the land of 440 acres near Palaj-Vasan area near Gandhinagar and will house state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities.

Speaking on the occasion on the theme of ‘Infrastructural development’ at the Vishwakarma Engineering College in Chandkheda in Ahmedabad Chief Minister stressed on adopting a strategic vision for the development of infrastructure. Citing the example of South Korea he said South Korea has changed the face of its economy by adopting such a vision for the development of infrastructural facilities.

Along with the traditional infrastructure such as electricity, roads and drinking water, setting up of ‘next generation infrastructure’ is the demand of time, he said. In 21st century the evolution of human civilization will depend on optical fiber network and communication technology, he said.

Like cities, 18000 villages of the state too get 24 hour electricity which has lessened the migration from villages to cities by 33 percent. All the 13,696 village panchayat of Gujarat is now getting broadband connectivity which has changed the life in rural areas.
