Gujarat’s Rs.58,000 crore project to make maximum use of Narmada water

Chief Minister Narendra Modi dedicated 32 km. Narmada pipeline to the people today in Botad of Bhavnagar district. The pipeline from Navada to Botad has been put up by the state government at the cost of Rs.139 crore with a view to provide drinking and irrigation water in this belt. The Chief Minister also performed ground breaking of the replenishment projects of Krishnasagar and Kaniyad lakes as well the Goma and Sukhbhadar dams, which involves an outlay of Rs.223 crore.

 

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister said that state government has embarked on a huge project under which a pipeline setup will be erected to supply one million acre feet of Narmada water each to Saurshtra, Kutch and North Gujarat regions. Besides, all the 77 dams, reservoirs and lakes of Saurashtra will be replenished.

The project aims at using the excess of Narmada’s flood water which would otherwise run off into the sea uselessly. This water will be channelized and provided for drinking and irrigation purpose in water-scarce regions. “This entire project will cost around Rs.58,000 crore, which is more than double the expense that has been made in past 40-45 years in building Sardar Sarovar dam”, Chief Minister said.

 

Mr. Modi expressed indignation over Centre’s policies for farmers. “Centre’s anti-farmer policies have ruined the farmers of this nation”, he said. The Centre devised plot to ruin Gujarat farmers by banning cotton export. The Centre has also obstructed the state government’s project of putting up CNG pipelines in Bhavnagar. “The centre must stop misusing its power and damaging Gujarat”, he said.

 

 

Speaking on the occasion Water Supply Minister Nitin Patel said the Navada-Botad pipeline will solve the drinking water problem of this region. The state government has made elaborate planning to make maximum use of rain water which runs off into the sea, he said.

 

Minister of State for Energy and Botad MLA Saurabh Patel attributed credit of this project to the Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s farsightedness.

 

A chaque of Rs.7,51,000 was donated to the Chief Minister’s Kanya Kelavni Nidhi.

 

Bhavnagar MLAs, MPs, office bearers of Bhavnagar city and district and people in large number were present on the occasion.
