CM inaugurates cattle-feed factory and dairy technology institute of Dudhsagar dairy

CM pays tribute to late Dr.Verghese Kurien

CM called upon to set up gobar-bank and animal hostel in every village

Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a cattle-feed factory and ‘Mansinhbhai Institute of Dairy and Food Technology’, set up by Mahesana’s Dudhsagar Dairy, today at Jagudan area. He stressed the usage of scientific methods in cattle-rearing and called upon to set up gobar-bank and animal hostel in every village.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister observed silence to pay heartfelt tributes to late Dr.Verghese Kurien, originator of the white revolution, on his shocking demise. He said that Dr. Kurien worked devotedly for six decades in the field of milk production, co-operative sector, value addition in dairy industry and cattle-rearing for earning a name to India. Though he did not take birth in Gujarat, he created a place in the hearts of Gujaratis.

Speaking to a large number of farmers on the occasion the Chief Minister said that unfortunately the cattle-rearing sector has been neglected in India. “Milk productivity per animal in India is lower comparing to other parts of the world. This is the reason why the cattle-breeders in India have not become prosperous.” Gujarat has encouraged scientific cattle-rearing and as a result has seen 68% increase in milk production during last decade, he said.

Speaking about the state’s initiatives in the field of cattle-rearing Mr. Modi said, “Shaurashtra did not have cattle-feed factories and there was a shortage of cattle-feed at cheaper rates. The state government has come up with a Rs.30 crore scheme for setting up of a cattle-feed factory in co-operative sector.” The government has also set up Kamdhenu University to create a pool of manpower for scientific cattle-rearing in Gujarat. “We examined and treated lakhs of animals by organizing around 112 cattle health fairs”, he added. He asked the farmers to start a campaign for desilting of dams, lakes and other water-conservation bodies with a view to make available water during difficult times and for the cultivation of fodder. He also asked them to go for scientific experiments for increased milk production and cattle-rearing.

Chief Minister congratulated the Dudhsagar dairy for setting up of the dairy and food technology institute. He said the institute will cause benefit to lakhs of cattle-breeders. “cattle-feed will be produced and will be available at cheaper rates”, The Dudhsagar dairy, founded by Mansinhbhai has become instrumental in bringing prosperity to lakhs of cattle-rearing farmers, said the Chief Minister. Chairman of Dudhsagar Dairy Vipul Chaudhary said this factory is the biggest in the country and will produce 10 lakh kilo of cattle-feed per day.
