“There is a need for a mass movement in Good Governance on the lines of Self-Rule”

“If intent is suspect, no system or resources or constitution can deliver Good Governance” – Narendra Modi

Ahmedabad, Monday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today stressed on the need to launch a mass movement in Good Governance on the lines of Self-Rule once launched by our freedom fighters.

He said that mass movements can be a solution to many a problem. Just as Mahatma Gandhi led the freedom struggle, there is need to launch a mass movement for development.

Speaking as chief guest at Rambhau Mahalgi Prabodhini Sanstha on completing three decades at Pune, he said if the purpose is clean and clear the worst pessimism could be overcome, but no amount of resources or foolproof system or laws or constitution can deliver good governance if the intent is suspect.

Mr. Modi said that India attained self governance but not good governance. He described Chhatrapati Shivaji’s rule as ideal governance. He cited the example of Gujarat where the rule of stable, pro-people, proactive good governance has been established during the last decade. Be it water management or animal husbandry through people’s participation, he said that Gujarat model is now being discussed all around. It is not embroiled in files, but engaged in life, as per the aspirations of the people.

He said that a host of political parties, beginning with the Congress, Communists, family-centric national and regional parties ruled at the Centre and in states, but only BJP-ruled states could take respective states to great heights. While debt-ridden farmers in other states are committing suicides, those in Gujarat are reaping bumper crops of cotton and other crops.

Mr. Modi said that Gujarat has increased the number of universities from 11 to 42, including specialized and innovative Raksha Shakti Varsity, Teachers Varsity and even on Children’s Varsity.

Earlier, Prabodhini Sanstha Chairman Gopinath Munde said Chief Minister Narendra Modi was at the root of success of good governance in Gujarat.
