Shri Narendra Modi flags off Sabarmati Marathon, 18,000 participate in different categories, including blind and disabled

Ahmedabad, Sunday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today flagged off the ‘Sabarmati Marathon’ from the banks of the Sabarmati, being organized by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation for the second successive year.

Thousands of spectators with families assembled at the riverfront since early morning to cheer over 18,000 runners who participated in this year’s race. They included men, women, children, young and old, blind and disabled.

It was held in different categories, namely 42-km full marathon, 21-km half marathon, 7-km dream run, Enthused by overwhelming response especially from the physically challenged, the Chief Minister said the annual event had added another feather to the city’s pride, reflecting citizens’ the sporting spirit and youthfulness. He wished the citizens manage the event from the next year.

In his welcome address, Ahmedabad Mayor Asit Vora gave details of the event.

Prominent dignitaries included South West Air Force Command Chief Air Staff Officer Air Marshall R.K. Jolly, legislators and municipal officers.

Prime Minister pays tribute to Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi paid homage to Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj, on his birth anniversary, today. "He dedicated his life to the upliftment of the deprived, exploited, and backward classes. His great deeds and ideals will continue to guide the nation for ages to come", Shri Modi noted.

The Prime Minister posted on X:

"राजर्षि छत्रपति शाहू जी महाराज की जयंती पर उन्हें आदरपूर्ण श्रद्धांजलि! वे सामाजिक न्याय और समानता के प्रबल समर्थक थे। उन्होंने वंचित, शोषित एवं पिछड़े वर्गों के उत्थान के लिए अपना जीवन समर्पित कर दिया। उनके महान कार्य और आदर्श युगों-युगों तक राष्ट्र का मार्गदर्शन करते रहेंगे।"
