Gujarat Chief Minister today asked academics and educationists to place the pearls of wisdom in Indian philosophy before the world.
He said that the Indian culture has faced many challenges and tribulations for several millenniums. It is time we overhaul our education system and syllabus befitting the changing times. It is time we hoist our vast knowledge and wisdom in the Vedas and Upanishads to the world, onto the web through the satellites to the quest for knowledge. He wondered as to why India's strength as a 'Sanatan' dharma could not provide answers to many problems of the world like global warming and show the right path to the people.
Mr. Modi said that only India could show the righteous way to live life 'Ten Tyakten Bhunjithah'as enshrined in our scriptures, and shun the western materialistic concept of 'Eat, Drink and Be Merry'. There is also a need to nurture Sanskrit language, neglected for long. At the same time, he said, India should adapt the best that is in other countries and cultures, particularly modern sciences and technologies, irrespective of whether they come from the past or future, East or West.
Mr. Modi was speaking at an international conference on 'Themes of Higher Education: Prospects of Gujarat', organized by Gujarat Government's Education Department and Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat at the Pandit Deendayal University campus here. The two-day conference is being attended by nearly 700 educationists and experts from different countries, vice-chancellors, senate members, principals and teachers.
With the help of Think Tanks, he said, Gujarat Government is changing its rules and policies, in a bid to discover the best that is in the educational world. The present-day education is more qualification-oriented than solving problems.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Vivian Baumfield presided Gujarat's efforts in the field of education.
