Gujarat government is set to launch seventh consecutive Krishi Mahotsav on the auspicious occasion of Akhatrij on May 6, 2011, from the Aakodara village of Sabarkantha district. Chief Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate India’s first animal hostel in Aakodara.

While giving details of this year’s Krishi Mahotsav State Government Spokespersons Jaynarayan Vyas and Suarabh Patel said that more than 225 Krishi Rath will be prepared on the theme of ‘Aapno Taluko Vibrant Taluko (ATVT)’ which will then move out in all the talukas and educate farmers on scientific methods of farming. Scientists and experts taking the help of successful farmers will guide other farmers on farming issues.

Farm kits will be distributed to the very poor farmers on free of cost. Five sets of CDs containing information about major crops will be distributed free of cost in every village, spokespersons said.

Furthermore, spokespersons said, agro-products will be distributed on concessional rate; High-tech Farmer Camp will be held in every taluka; special guidance will be given to farmers having low yields; vaccination will be administered to more than 50-lakh animals; Agro exhibitions will be held and guidance on high-tech farming will be given to farmers.

Spokespersons further informed that Chief Minister will also inaugurate India’s first animal hostel in Aakodara village on May 6. The animal hostel will house all the 900 cattle of the village on the same place. This livestock will be managed by the villagers on co-operative bases and will be given medical care without cost.

State government organises Krishi Mahotsav every year with a view to double the income of the farmers. It has helped the state increasing cotton production by six times. Farmers have started organic farming and a significant increase in milk production has also seen.

Prime Minister expresses grief over mishap in Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has expressed deep sorrow over the mishap in Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab.

The Prime Minister said he was pained to hear about the incident. He extended his condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
