The state government is planning to introduce roof top solar power generation plan in Ahmedabad and other cities like Gandhinagar, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara etc., on the line of developed countries. In developed countries the concept has got wider popularity.

A senior government official close to the development told that, “under this plan we will encourage private residential, commercial and industrial property owners to put small solar power generation plants on their building roofs. The electricity generated on roof will be transfer to the various grids.”

Sources close to the development told that,“government is likely to sign MOU(memorandum of understanding) with AEC and other power supply companies for buying solar power. Private roof top solar technology companies will invest and install roof top solar installations in cities on private properties and generate solar power. A separate authority is likely to be created for this roof top solar power generation in various cities.”

Government is also planning to chalk various incentive schemes to attract people to participate in roof top solar power generation project. Ahmedabad has capacity to generate around 100 to 150 MW power through roof top network.” added the sources.
