Ahmedabad, Wednesday: The multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Dahej in Gujarat has made it to the world’s top-50 ‘Free Zones’, as per a survey of over 600 Free Zones in 120 countries by the prestigious FDI Magazine, according to Gujarat’s Minister of State for Industries Saurabh Patel.

The Minister said that Dahej SEZ, stood 26th among Top-50 and is the only SEZ from India to have figured in the list from 24 countries for 2012-13, selected by the jury on various parameters.

He said that Dahej SEZ did it second time in two years. Earlier, it had figured in FDI Magazine’s ‘Top-25 Free Zones’. He attributed the SEZ’s winning award to Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s farsighted, transparent policies and good governance for industrial development.

The Dahej SEZ has been jointly developed by Gujarat Government’s Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) and Central Government’s ONGC. It is spread over 1,732 hectares, while plots have been allotted to 68 units, which invested Rs.35,000-crore, and employed about 26,500 people. The commercial units have exported goods worth Rs.865-crore.
