Gujarat to provide housing to all safai kamdars: Narendra Modi

Ahmedabad, Friday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today expressed his resolve to provide housing to all safai kamdars, contrary to canards spread by elements spreading lies that his government does not care about the poor.

Dedicating 1,024 houses to safai kamdars at a function here, he said that Gujarat Safai Kamdar Vikas Nigam and Ahmedabad Mahanagar Seva Sadan have jointly undertaken the job of constructing 1,924 houses for Valmiki Samaj in Ahmedabad under DrAmbedkar Safai Kamdar Awas Yojna. Each two bedroom-kitchen unit costs Rs.2.70-lakh, excluding land cost, while each beneficiary have to deposit only Rs.35,000, all remaining cost to be borne by the government.

Mr.Modi said the government decided to provide housing to about four lakh safai kamdars in the state and help their wards go up the social ladder. Women workers are given preference in allotment, while 59 safai kamdars have become sanitary inspectors and their 110 children were provided loans for higher education, including four for study abroad. The government has a scheme to train any Valmiki Samaj person above age-14 and V-pass in basic computer under eMPOWER project absolutely free-of-cost.

Besides Ahmedabad Mayor Asit Vora, other prominent leaders present on the occasion included District Guardian Minister Anandiben Patel, Social Justice Minister Fakir Vaghela and Education Minister Ramanlal Vora.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today spoke with Crown Prince and PM of Saudi Arabia, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman and discussed the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Shri Modi reiterated India’s condemnation of attacks on regional energy infrastructure, and the need to ensure freedom of navigation and keeping shipping lines open and secure. “Thanked him for his continued support for the welfare of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia”, Shri Modi stated.
