Shri Narendra Modi addressed a large crowd of supporters at the ‘Hunkar Rally’ in Muzaffarpur, on the afternoon of 3rd March.
Affirming that the Hunkar rally was not an effort at showing someone down but to save the Nation from ruining, Shri Modi shared his single point of focus of ensuring growth and development.
On the occasion, former Union Minister Shri Ram Vilas Paswan and Shri Upendra Kushwaha joined the NDA. Shri Modi said, “NDA is expanding and I welcome Ram Vilas ji and Upendra ji. This expansion is not going to stop. Our strength will increase and so will the woes of others. NDA not only stands for National Democratic Alliance but is also the National Development Alliance,” said Shri Modi. He further appreciated Shri Paswan’s honesty and spoke of how many other leaders, unlike him, were apprehensive in showing their affiliation to the BJP. “Ram Vilas ji left NDA but whenever we met, we met with great affection. If media took photos, he never got scared. This is because Paswan ji has no hypocrisy, whereas some leaders will talk properly behind closed doors, and behave differently in public. People cannot forgive hypocrisy,” asserted Shri Modi. He also added how the BJP’s focus was to build an India where every family had a home, with water and sanitation facilities, and where there was regular power supply.
Addressing the various concerns plaguing Bihar, Shri Modi spoke of the defunct sugar factories, untapped potential of water resources, lack of employment opportunities for the youth, erratic electricity supply and lack of proper sanitation facilities. “60 years after freedom, we need better sanitation facilities for women. Can this current government and the government in Delhi give you jobs? We also need to take Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji’s river grid project ahead, but this was not fulfilled by the UPA,” stated Shri Modi. He further spoke on the untapped potential of the leechi and makhana farming in Bihar and said, “If there is no Lotus where will the Makhana come from.” Aspects of terrorism were duly dealt by Shri Modi when he stressed on how Bihar had become a heaven for terrorists because of the Central government’s practise of votebank politics. “We have to fight terror in one voice, rising above politics. That is when the common people will feel secure,” said Shri Modi.
With a touch of rebuke, Shri Modi said that the Congress was surprised at how the BJP, which they thought was a party of Brahmins and Banias, had chosen the son of a tea seller to become a PM candidate. Emphasizing the BJP’s focus on the marginalized sections of the society, Shri Modi said, “The coming decade belongs to the right of the poor and the marginalised. We are very clear on that. Wherever I go, whoever I meet, I talk about one thing - how to solve things. Our opponents, instead, think of a solution from Modi. Modi says stop inflation, they say stop Modi, Modi says stop corruption, they say stop Modi. Their politics is only built on one dream, one agenda - stop Modi. I say Vikas karna hai, they say Modi ka Vinash karna hai. Ab nirnay desh ko karma hai.”
Shri Modi added that how under the garb of secularism the Congress government was only trying to hide away from their misgovernance and ineffective policies, and shying away from addressing the serious threats of corruption, poverty, inflation and unemployment. Referring to Congress and 3rd front parties Shri Modi said, “They rise when polls near but are asleep otherwise. They can vitiate the atmosphere but never do good for India. For them secularism is religion first but for us it is India first. For them secularism is votebank politics while for the BJP it is about development politics. Who todo aur raaj karo mein maante hai, aur hum jodo aur vikas karo mein. For them secularism is about appeasement to all and justice to none, but for us it is about appeasement to none and justice for all,” said Shri Modi.
He further urged the crowd not to support for the 3rd front stating that it consisted of parties that were formed to save the Congress. “3rd front consists of parties that are saving Congress. Sometimes by will or due to fear of CBI,” said Shri Modi.
Recalling the recent incident of bombing at the BJP’s rally in Patna in October 2013, Shri Modi stated that the explosives had hit the Nation’s ekta and sadbhavna, and bowed to the people of Bihar that inspite of such threat they had shown the courage to unite and send a strong message of unity. “Why were innocent people killed? Those who were killed were from Bihar only. Those drowned in votebank politics won't understand the fact that without shanti, ekta and sadbhavna, the nation cannot develop. We need freedom from such thoughts and such leaders as only then will India progress,” said Shri Modi.
Shri Modi thanked the people of Bihar for showing their support towards the Statue of Unity initiative, and recalled the momentous contribution of revolutionaries like Dr. Rajendra Prasad, George Fernandes and Khudiram Bose. He also remembered Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji’s efforts for Bihar’s development, some of which included the promotion of the Maithili language and the emphasis on developing the eastern corridor. “If Atal ji had formed the Government, the work on Eastern corridor would have gone on at a quick pace,” said Shri Modi.
