Swami Vivekananda Youth Employment Week

In a span of a week GoG helps 65000 youths getting job in private sector

Leave the hunger for white-collar job, value the hard work and employment-based skills: CM to youths

The Chief Minister Narendra Modi handed out job letters to about 25000 youths of southern Gujarat today in a function held at Surat as a part of Swami Vivekananda Youth Employment Week.

Earlier, during this week, the State government had organized three such functions at Rajkot, Vadodara and Surat and acted as a catalyst for the youths to get jobs in private sector. In all, 65000 youths have been helped in getting jobs.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister asked the youths to leave the hunger for a white-collar job. “Youths can only secure their dreams if they value the importance of hard work and develop employment-based skills”, he said.

The Chief Minister said that the youth who possesses skill will never have to remain jobless. Job opportunities are limited to those who possess mere degrees. And so, the state government has changed the very fabric of the way the skill development training is being imparted. The state government desires to create a pool of skilled youth power that will cater to the real needs of industries.

Recalling the past condition of the ITIs the Chief Minister said that there was a time when youths used to feel shame in taking ITI courses. But the state government has helped the ITIs in gaining respect in the society. Now, the situation has been reversed and the industries are willingly coming to ITI pass-outs to select them for jobs, he said.

During just a decade, the number of ITIs has increased from 274 to 1068 and the number of ITI seats has been raised from 77000 to five lakh. The state government has even come out with a decision that will help ITI pass-outs to directly pursue diploma and degree courses. This has opened the door of higher education for them, said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister also gave outlines of the vast opportunities available to skilled youths possessing the industrial skills. A huge demand for the skilled technicians is going to be open up in the fields like ship making industries, ceramic industry, solar energy, wind energy, automobiles, aviation, among others, he said.

In the past, the employment exchanges were merely registering the names unemployed. But during last decade the employment exchanges of Gujarat has become instrumental in giving government jobs to around three lakh youths. About 65000 youths got job within a week and this number will exceed the figure of one lakh, said the Chief Minister.

Assembly Speaker Ganapat Vasava said the Gujarat government has showed its farsightedness by taking care of the skill development among youths. Gujarat is on top since last eight years in providing employment through employment exchanges.

Labour and Employment Minister Vajubhai Vala, Minister of State Liladhar Vaghela and Principal Secretary to Labour and Employment Department P.Panirvel also spoke on the occasion and congratulated the youths who are going to start their career.

Panchayat Minister Narottam Patel, Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel, Forest and Environment Minister Mangubhai Patel, Surat MP Darshnaben Jardosh, Navsari MP C.R.Patil, MLAs Kirit Patel, Kishor Vankavala, R.C.Patel, and government office bearers were present on the occasion.
