Union Finance Minister seeks CM's view on GST reform

In a meet held today with Union Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee regarding Goods and Service Tax (GST), Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi said that Gujarat favors GST reforms. He insisted upon a nation-wide sound IT network for a result oriented and transparent implementation of GST.

Shri Pranab Mukherjee, while his visit to Gujarat, arranged a meet with Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi to seek his views on GST reforms proposed by Central Government. Gujarat's Finance Minister Shri Vajubhai Vala, Minister of State for Finance Shri Saurabhbhai Patel and Principal Secretary to Finance Department Shri M.M.Shrivastav was also present on the occasion.

Chief Minister suggested that qualitative changes in GST framework must realize triple objectives - benefit for common man, simplification in administration and rapid growth.

Chief Minister said that it is Center's responsibility to take consensus of the States of India on the issue of GST reforms. Stressing upon the issue of security within States, he said that Central Government first must remove the feeling of insecurity prevailing in the States before implementing any tax reforms.

PM condoles the passing of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda Zia

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today condoled the passing of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Dhaka.

In a post on X, Shri Modi stated:

“Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Dhaka.

Our sincerest condolences to her family and all the people of Bangladesh. May the Almighty grant her family the fortitude to bear this tragic loss.

As the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh, her important contributions towards the development of Bangladesh, as well as India-Bangladesh relations, will always be remembered.

I recall my warm meeting with her in Dhaka in 2015. We hope that her vision and legacy will continue to guide our partnership.

May her soul rest in peace.”
