Solution to global warming lies in Indian scriptures: CM

The leaders of 192 countries are busy discussing environmental problems such as global warming and are trying to find solutions in Copenhagen. But the answer to these issues lies in various scriptures of the Indian religions.

'The issue of global warming could be solved if the leaders of the west come to India and understand the Indian traditions,' said Chief Minister Narendra Modi in his 40-minute speech at 'Jyot' on Tuesday.

The CM visited the exhibition organised by a religious organisation, Jyot, with the support of Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO), Gujarat Chapter. The Indian scriptures believe in the philosophy of 'Chhod Ma Ranchod' (God lives in every plant), he said.

'Exploitation of nature is a crime, nourishing it is virtue,' said Modi. The environmental problem the world is facing today is because of over-exploitation of natural resources.

He even called up Sanskar Dham school to send its students to the exhibition. 'There is a need to understand and accept our culture in the new form and change it for the better. However, under the pretext of secularism many people are trying to destroy the Indian culture. It is a matter of shame that the government of Gujarat had to move the Supreme Court to seek a ban on cow slaughter,' said Shri Narendra Modi.

The chief minister also asked the Jain community to plant more trees around their religious centre Palitana. He also said that more than 25,000 small terrace ponds could be created in Palitana. 'The government has plans to celebrate 'Van Mahotsava' at Palitana next year,' Shri Narendra Modi said.

Acharya Vijay Yugbhushan Surishwaraji Maharaja, also known as Pandit Maharaja, said that the solution to global warming lies in following religious ethics. He also said that for the social order, Rajyashashan (political ruling) is must, in the same way Dharmashashan (religious ruling) is needed for a just world order. 'Exploitation through colonisation is at the root cause of the issues the world is facing today,' he said.

Utkarsh Shah, president of JITO, Gujarat chapter, said that in Gujarat, one plus one is not two, but eleven and Jyot and JITO have proven this by organising such a huge exhibition for 11-days in the city.
