A delegation comprising of the members from the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration of the House of Representatives of Japan, led by Mr. Ichiro Aisawa, called on the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, at 7, Race Course Road today. This was Shri Narendra Modi's first meeting with Japanese political leaders after assuming office as Prime Minister.
Welcoming the delegation, the Prime Minister said, for India the strategic and global partnership with Japan has high priority. He said that though he attached great importance to his visit to Japan, scheduled in the first week of July, he had to defer the visit in view of the ensuing first budget session of Parliament of the new Government.
Shri Modi said that a fundamental identity of values, interests and priorities exists between India and Japan. Apart from economic ties, India and Japan share strong Buddhist cultural linkages, the Prime Minister said. Shri Modi also said that Japan has been a partner country for the Vibrant Gujarat summits.
The leader of the Japanese delegation, Mr. Aisawa, said that Japanese nationals working in India have great expectations from Shri Narendra Modi's Government. He added that the people of India also hoped that the new Government will take the Indian economy to new heights.
Shri Modi responded by saying that his Government had been elected with a mandate to make India strong and prosperous, and the Government would do its best to fulfil that mandate. He added that an economically vibrant and strong India was in the interest of the entire Asian continent.
The Japanese delegation suggested Parliamentary exchanges between the two countries, which was welcomed by the Prime Minister.
