Watch : Shri Narendra Modi addressing a Public Meeting in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh

On Saturday 23rd November 2013 Shri Narendra Modi addressed large public meetings in Mandsaur and Ujjain and campaigned for the BJP in the 2013 MP Vidhan Sabha Elections. Shri Modi said the spirit in the coming elections is like the 1977 Lok Sabha elections, which were fought by the people despite a media that was gagged and a regime in Delhi that was anti-democratic. He affirmed, “I have been touring Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan for the last few days and I can see that the people are fighting these elections.” He told the people who gathered that they are not merely choosing who their MLA would be but they are choosing the future of the whole state.

Shri Modi took on the Congress for repeatedly betraying the people by leaving promises unfulfilled. He declared that the Congress is playing with the sentiments of the people and asked how can a Party that did not fulfill its old promises even think of making new ones. Shri Modi further pointed, “Whenever elections come Congress keeps taking name of the poor but they will do nothing because they know that if poverty goes, their chair will also go. They know that the moment people get educated their chairs will go and that is why for 4 generations the family is saying the same thing.”

He also questioned the culture of democracy that prevails in the Congress. Shri Modi asked what kind of democracy is it where the own MP of the Congress is locked, referring to the instance where the Mandsaur Lok Sabha MP was locked in a room by Congress supporters. Referring to a comment by a Congress General Secretary and Former MP CM towards the Mandsaur Lok Sabha MP, Shri Modi affirmed, “You have one leader who loves to be seen in the media. What words did he use for your MP. Can such words be used? The Member of Parliament may be from the Congress Party but it is important to show Shaleenta. They have no shame!”

Shri Modi lauded the work of the Madhya Pradesh Government under Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan and asked the people to compare his work in the last 5 years with that of the Congress ruled Rajasthan government under Ashok Gehlot.

With these 2 public meetings, Shri Narendra Modi has concluded his campaign in the poll bound Madhya Pradesh. Earlier Shri Modi addressed rallies in various places including Chhatarpur, Sagar, Guna, Bhopal, Shahdol, Singrauli, Satna, Jabalpur, Khandwa, Barwani, Jhabua and Indore. Shri Modi spoke at length about Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his team’s efforts to provide good governance to the people of MP and took on the Congress for the lack of governance in the Centre and for betraying the aspirations of the people. He attacked the Centre for their inability to tackle price rise and conveyed to the people how the Congress mocks the poor. He also brought out the misplaced priorities of the UPA be it not allowing gates on Narmada that would give MP additional electricity, failure on increasing skill development initiatives for the youth etc.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today has given its approval for the continuation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III (PMGSY-III) beyond March 2025 upto March 2028. It involves consolidation of Through Routes and Major Rural Links connecting habitations to Gramin Agricultural Markets (GrAMs), Higher Secondary Schools and Hospitals. The revised outlay of the scheme will be Rs.83,977 crore.

The Cabinet further, amongst other things, approved the following:

  • Extension of timeline till March 2028 for completion of roads and bridges in plain areas and roads in hilly areas.
  • Extension of timeline till March 2029 for completion of bridges in hilly areas.
  • Works sanctioned before 31.03.2025 but un-awarded till now may be taken up for tender/award.
  • Long Span Bridges (LSBs) (161 Nos. with estimated cost of Rs.961 crore) pending for sanction but lying on the alignment of already sanctioned roads may be sanctioned and tendered/awarded.
  • Revision of outlay to Rs. 83,977 crore from original outlay of Rs.80,250 crore.

Benefits:

The extension of the timeline of PMGSY-III will enable the full realization of its intended socio-economic benefits by ensuring completion of targeted upgradation of rural roads. It will significantly boost the rural economy and trade by enhancing market access for agricultural and non-farm products, reducing transportation time and costs, and thereby improving rural incomes. Improved connectivity will facilitate better access to education and healthcare institutions, ensuring timely delivery of essential services, particularly in remote and underserved areas.

The continued implementation will also generate substantial employment opportunities, both directly through construction activities and indirectly by promoting rural enterprises and services. Overall, the extension will contribute to inclusive and sustainable development by bridging the rural-urban divide and advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
