Shri Modi expresses grief over the passing away of Shiv Sena stalwart Shri Balasaheb Thackeray 

His passing away is the end of an era. He was a great cartoonist, an independent minded journalist and made a mark for himself in the politics of India: Shri Modi 

Balasaheb kept himself away from the trappings of power and as a Sangathak created a mass movement: Shri Modi

On Twitter Shri Modi wrote- Full of life, Balasaheb Thackeray was an epitome of courage & valour. I am grieved to hear about his demise. May his soul rest in peace.

Shri Narendra Modi has expressed his deep condolences on the passing away of Shiv Sena stalwart Shri Balasaheb Thackeray, who breathed his final breath on the afternoon of Saturday 17th November 2012 after a prolonged illness.

Shri Modi said that for the past few days the entire nation has been praying for the good health of Shri Balasaheb Thackeray and he fought like a true warrior for his life but finally we had to loose Balasaheb.

The Chief Minister termed his passing away as the end of an era. He said Shri Balasaheb Thackeray was a great cartoonist, an independent minded journalist and made a mark for himself in the politics of India on the basis of his thoughts.

Shri Modi stated that Shri Balasaheb Thackeray kept himself away from the trappings of power and as a Sangathak created a mass movement and political party. He added that for Shri Balasaheb Thackeray there was no compromise on patriotism or love of the nation and that we have lost a true lover of India.

He said that Shri Balasaheb Thackeray’s loss is as much a personal loss for him. Shri Modi declared that Balasaheb has great love for him and he has lost a guide in the passing away of Shri Balasaheb Thackeray.

The Chief Minister expressed his prayers that God give strength to the Thackeray family in this hour of grief.

Shri Modi will be visiting Mumbai to pay his tributes to Shri Balasaheb Thackeray on Sunday 18th November 2012.

Shri Balasaheb Thackeray founded the Shiv Sena in 1966 and since then has been a major figure in the politics of India. His demise will surely be hard to fill.

State Visit of Prime Minister to Seychelles

As part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s State Visit to Seychelles from 27-29 June 2026, Prime Minister and the President of Seychelles, H.E. Dr. Patrick Herminie today held official talks at the State House in Victoria, Mahe.

The talks covered the full spectrum of bilateral relations, with the leaders agreeing to further strengthen cooperation in health, education, capacity building, digital transformation, sustainable development, social infrastructure, renewable energy, maritime security and defence. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments, including challenges in the Indian Ocean region, such as illegal fishing, drug trafficking and piracy. Both leaders expressed satisfaction at the progress made in the implementation of projects and initiatives under the Special Economic Package announced by India. Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting the development priorities of Seychelles and to further deepen the close and enduring partnership between the two countries.

Following the official talks, both leaders released a joint commemorative logo marking 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Several MoUs/agreements in the fields of Capacity Building, UPI, Health, Agriculture, Shipping, Space, Extradition and Line of Credit were exchanged thereafter. In addition, several announcements in the fields of food security, infrastructure, health, vocational training, maritime security and defence were made in support of the development needs of Seychelles. The details of these announcements may be seen here [link]. Seychelles also announced that it is joining the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure [CDRI].

Later in the day, Prime Minister addressed an Extraordinary Sitting of the National Assembly of Seychelles, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. In his address, he highlighted the historical bonds of friendship between India and Seychelles and underscored the shared values of democracy, rule of law and people-centric governance that guide the two countries. He noted that mutual trust and close cooperation have shaped a robust partnership spanning development cooperation, maritime security, technology, innovation, health and capacity building. The Leader of Opposition of Seychelles, H.E. Mr. Bernard Georges, also called on Prime Minister. The two leaders discussed India-Seychelles bilateral ties and conveyed their strong support to further build the special friendship between the two countries.
