BJP wins five out of seven seats in Gujarat by-elections

BJP has emerged an undisputed and clear winner in Gujarat assembly by-elections 2009, by winning five out of seven seats.

All five seats which are now with the BJP were previously occupied by Congress. Congress could just retain Dhoraji seat and snatched Kodinar seat which was occupied by BJP previously.

On Jasdan seat, BJP's Bharatbhai Boghra got a majority by 14,774 votes, defeating Congress candidate Bhavnaben Makwana who is a daughter of sitting Rajkot Congress MP and ex-MLA of Jasdan Kuvarjibhai Bavaliya.

BJP's Vashrambhai Khorani emerged victorious by a margin of 7,468 votes on Saurashtra's Chotila seat defeating rival Congress candidate, a son of previous late. Congress MLA Popatbhai Jinjariya.

BJP candidate Kalyansih Chauhan snatched Dehgam seat from Congress by a margin of 9,468 votes defeating rival Congress candidate C.J.Chavda. Dehgam seat was occupied by Congress earlier.

On Sami-Harij seat, BJP candidate Bhavsinh Rathod emerged victorious by a margin of thumping 24,033 votes defeating rival Congress candidate Dinesh Thakor.

BJP candidate Vasant Bhatol secured victory on north Gujarat's Danta seat, defeating rival Congress candidate Noor Ahmed Umatiya by a margin of 4,300 votes.

Congress candidate Dhirsinh Barad snatched Kodinar seat from BJP by a margin of 7,942 votes defeating rival BJP candidate. Congress retained Dhoraji seat where party candidate Jayesh Radadiya, son of sitting MP and ex-MLA Vitthal Radadiya got a majority by 15,922 votes over the rival BJP candidate.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will address victory rallies in five assembly areas where BJP has been victorious over the Congress in the by-elections.

Soon after result of assembly by-election was out, Modi decided to address ‘Vijay Rally' in each of the five assembly areas where BJP crushed the rival candidates.

Modi's series of victory rallies will kick off from Dehgam near Ahmedabad on Monday evening.

Modi will address rallies in Chotila, Jasdan, Danta and Sami-Harij also in this week.

According to party sources, Vijay Rallies in Jasdan and Chotila will be addressed by Modi and state party president Rupala tomorrow in the afternoon.

Modi has reason to celebrate as BJP has snatched five seats from Congress. All five seats were traditionally ‘Congress seats'.

PM to inaugurate 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth on 15th January

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) on 15th January 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi. Prime Minister will also address the gathering on the occasion.

The Conference will be chaired by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla and will be attended by 61 Speakers and Presiding Officers of 42 Commonwealth countries and 4 semi-autonomous parliaments from different parts of the world.

The Conference will deliberate on a wide range of contemporary parliamentary issues, including the role of Speakers and Presiding Officers in maintaining strong democratic institutions, the use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary functioning, the impact of social media on Members of Parliament, innovative strategies to enhance public understanding of Parliament and citizen participation beyond voting, among others.
