The lawns of South Block on a bright May evening proved to be a perfect setting for Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s interaction with the entire staff of the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Prime Minister sat down with the PMO staff, which consisted of all levels of the office from the Principal Secretary, National Security Advisor to the Under Secretaries, Section Officers and other supporting staff and shared his thoughts on various subjects. Amid rapturous cheering, the PMO congratulated PM Modi for the thumping victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In an informal and free-wheeling address, PM Modi thanked each and every member of the PMO for their hard work in the last five years. In a disarming manner PM Modi said, “All of you would have worked with many Ministers, many officials but since I came to Delhi five years ago, this has been my first experience of working with you all.”

The Prime Minister said that based on the working of this Government, the expectations from this Government are immense and so are the exceptions from the PMO. He added that it is the duty of the PMO to rise to the occasion and deliver on these expectations.

Shri Modi described teamwork as key to fulfilling people’s aspiration. Elaborating on this, he stated that when teamwork is strong, there is no scope for dilution or diversion of any sort. He also said that while the name of the Prime Minister becomes popular across the nation, this happens because there is a round the clock working PMO that works as a team and delivers results.

The Prime Minister shared his philosophy that a top-down leadership would not be as effective as nurturing several leaders who can contribute in different fields. He stressed on multi-layered and multi-dimensional leadership in order to bring a positive change.

During his speech, PM Modi said a special thank you to the families of the PMO staff, who have had to make several sacrifices including forgoing holidays and spending less time with their relatives who are working in the PMO. He pointed that he understands these sacrifices and said that the hardwork put in by the officers would lead to transformative outcomes for fellow Indians.

Speaking about the coming five years, PM Modi said that the instead of living in the glory of the work done in the previous term, the team should look at the coming five years with a fresh approach towards solving India’s problems. This would enhance the working of the PMO, Shri Modi pointed.

Principal Secretary to the PM Shri Nripendra Misra, Additional Principal Secretary Shri PK Misra, NSA Shri Ajit Doval and others were present.
