The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) is a proud recipient of an award at the eGov eIndia Awards 2011. The ‘eGov strategies and ICT enabled initiatives’ at the CMO have been awarded the ‘Best Government to Citizen Initiative of the Year’ award. This Government to Citizens (G2C) Initiative Award seeks to recognize government departments that have used ICT tools to provide and improve government services, transactions and interaction with the citizens.

The eIndia awards are prestigious awards dedicated to landmark initiatives by public and private entities through Information and Communications Technology (ICT). They seek to identify and promote ICT initiatives with the greatest impact on its citizens.

In the recent past, the CMO has won numerous awards in the filed of ICT implementation. A few weeks ago, the ICT initiatives at CMO won the ‘Award of Excellence- Departmental Level’ at the CSI Nihilent e-Governance Awards 2011. The online grievance redressal system SWAGAT has been awarded the coveted United Nations Public Service Award for innovative use of IT to address Public Grievances. Through SWAGAT citizens can express their grievances on public services provided by the Government.

These initiatives are in line with Shri Modi’s continued emphasis on information technology. He is himself a committed user of IT be it in governance or in social media. He is an avid blogger and also uses Twitter and Facebook to reach other to his well-wishers. Last month he was nominated in the prestigious Mashable Awards 2011 in the category ‘Must Follow Politician on Social Media’ and was the only Indian public figure to secure a nomination in any of the 28 categories of the awards.
