Gujarat brings India on the Map of Global Financial Hub with the inauguration of Gujarat’s tallest tower at GIFT City – India’s first global financial hub

January , 2013: Gujarat once again makes India proud, with the inauguration of Gujarat’s tallest tower by Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Gujarat on January 10, 2013, India will showcase on the Map of Global Financial Hubs, a proud moment for all Indians. At the time when world is uncertain over the economic growth, state of Gujarat as usual thinks big and unveils the first Global Financial Hub of India to the world.

The commissioning of the first high rise tower followed by a similar tower opening in March, is the first major milestone towards making GIFT the country’s first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).

Government of Gujarat formulated GIFT, a global financial hub to realise the vision of promoting the state as a centre for the financial services sector. GIFT is a globally benchmarked International Financial Service Centre (IFSC) being developed in Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Domestic Finance Centre (DFC) in non SEZ area. It is supported by state-of-the-art internal infrastructure encompassing all basic urban infrastructure elements along with an excellent external connectivity by roads, metro and BRTS.

GIFT City is being developed through Gujarat International Finance Tec-City Co. Ltd. (GIFTCL) a joint venture company of Government of Gujarat (GoG) and Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS). It is spread over an area of 886 acres. The Rs. 78,000 crore GIFT Project is expected to create 1 million new jobs in 10 years.

Gujarat International Finance Tec City (GIFT) will lead to make Gujarat- An international financial hub: Gujarat has traditionally been a land of entrepreneurs with strong financial acumen. Gujarati’s all over the world are active in the finance sector. Therefore, the Government of Gujarat is setting up a Finance City between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

The first two towers of GIFT with 28 floors and 122 metres height each have got the distinction of being the tallest buildings in the state of Gujarat. The towers height had to be restricted to 122 metres due to their proximity to the Ahmedabad airport.

In August 2012, the project had won the most prestigious award in the category of ‘Best Industrial Development & Expansion’ at the ‘Infrastructure Investment Awards - 2012’ organized by World Finance Group based in London.

GIFT ONE, an initiative by IL&FS Township and Urban Assets Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd. (IL&FS) has been developed on its own through reputed contractor M/s. Larsen & Toubro ECC (design and building contractor), P G Patki (architect) and Perkins Eastman USA (interior designers).

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi shared glimpses from his interaction with students in 9th edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC) 2026. The Prime Minister had an informal interaction with Exam Warriors from Coimbatore, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Assam during the second episode of PPC 2026. Welcoming students to the special edition of ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’, Shri Modi noted that this time the programme was held across different parts of the country.
